Foot in mouth.

Here are two good examples from the recent ashes series why cricketers should think twice before sledging.

#1

Late on day two of the Adeliade test when Australia was one down chasing the huge total set by England, Flintoff says to the newly arrived Australian captain "I wouldn't won't to be you".

Ponting hits a ton and Australia beat England on day 5.

#2
K.Pietersen calls Symonds a specialist fieldsman in the Melbourne test.

Symonds hammers 156.
The match is over in three rain reduced days.

Australia sledged Lara early on but soon learned to keep it zipped.

Are their any examples of sledges gone wrong that you can remember?

Not a sledge but the words "Greig" and "grovel" go together

A classic has to be the McGrath/Sarwan incident. Where McGrath gave Sarwan a load of **** and then Sarwan gave him some back. It was during the West Indies' record fourth innings total and Sarwan ended up with a century.

I remember when Warne and Lance Klusenar were at it. Klusenar came to the crease and Warne said

"I've been waiting 4 years to humiliate you again"the bowler

Lance replied "Looks like you spent it eating"

Another is when Viv Richards was at bat and played and missed a few times. The bowler said to him

"It's round, red and weighs and 5oz. Try and hit it" The next ball was hit for 6 out of the ground and Viv replied:

"You know what it looks like. Now go find it"

The most recent one I can remember was Flintoff against Tino Best. Tino was playing defensive and Flintoff and the men around the bat were shouting "Watch them windows Tino!" The next over he came down the track and was stumped. The laugh on Flintoff's face said it all.

I thought Jimmy Ormonds retort to Mark Waugh was pretty good, on being sledged by Waugh, Ormond replied with "Mate, at least I'm the best player in my own family!" or words to that effect.
