How do you judge the perfect tea? - for club cricketers

As the new season closes in on us, I've been looking at the fixtures and rating the opposition not on the quality of the ground, wicket, outfield or opposition, but on the quality of the tea!

So come on then how do you rate the prefect tea??

As we usually bowl first I find a glass of juice is nice to start with followed by a cup or two of tea.
Then usually a couple of nice sandwiches, a bit of pie, some crisps,a bit of quiche, a buiscuit or 2, some cake and then i realise i have to open the batting so it all goes back!

Being a relapsed smoker (who solemnly swears to ditch the smokes in the near future ) i usually smoke 2 cigarretes over 1 litre of Gatorade.

For a sport, cricketers teas are so unhealthy. If i didnt open the batting and either open the bowling or bowl first change i'd really enjoy my teas!

As I dont fancy having to try to run after a large tea i usually grab what i can after the game.

Scones, water, party pies and party sausage rolls, watermelon, oranges, juice and cake. If all this are at tea I would be very happy.

We have a banquet at our club.It never gets eaten and we always get complemented by the opposition that we do the best teas in the division.

No wonder i am putting weight on.

My husband's club (as a lady I just watch...) does a good tea, at the (much disputed!) home of cricket.

Sandwiches and homemade cakes by the truckload, and Roses Lime Cordial. Followed by buckets of tea.

Best teas in recent memory :-

i) Marlboro 1870 / Streatham - Salad, Rotis, BBQ Chicken, Pasta, Crusty Bread and Sausages. Fruit Salad, Pastries and lots of tea. All served by the equivalent of the 'Lilt Ladies'.

ii) Us!!!! Typical sadwich selection would be - Cheese & Onion, Turkey Salad, Sausage & Ketchup and Egg & Cress. Followed up by Pork Pies, Scotch Eggs and Cold Pizza, and Finished off with 4 types of cake, plus huge wedges of melon. Fabulous!

That sounds good!

My best tea in memory was against DSS.

There were sandwiches galore, hot potato wedges, hot sausages, chicken legs and loads of cream cakes.

Our opening bowler came onto the field munching a chicken leg and for the first 10 overs we were very lethargic in the field. After 3 overs bowling he vomited!

Talking

From what i gather, the English actually still sit down and have a meal at a table like in the traditional fashion!
How are you manage to complete the day's play with a belly full of food? The risk of stomach cramps aside, the digestive system uses a lot of energy, and that can only lower performance levels on the field.

Hydrate with plenty of electrolyte restoring fluids, and perhaps an easliy absorbed snack such as a light sandwich or banana would be a better course of action surely.

A banquet lol. You must mope around like a bunch of brown's cows after that
