Setting up a Cricket CLub

Hi Everyone,

I hope I'm in the right place!!

We're setting up a village cricket club and I've been asked to be club secretary.

Now I know nothing about this role or what is expected of me, so any tips advice would be really useful.

I know that we need Public Liability insurance. Can anyone reccomend a good UK supplier?

If there are any other things that we have to do, please let me know.

Thanks for all replies.

Here are some links stating what a club secretary has to do. I'd read them and print them out for reference. Secretary is a really important (and hard ) job. Are you going to do the fixtures too? If so you'll need a big contacts book. I'd delegate the fixtures to a fixtures secretary.

For 75 pounds a year, Hitscricket.com will do all this

It will save a bomb on postage and time and legwork, and give your village team a window. I'd also set up a telephone tree/email tree to save time/money.

For the insurance, you'll need to get a few quotes. I hope your team is a UK based one.

But a google search will show others.

You'll need someone to help you. Get a deputy secratry up and running and train them up. If you fall ill/go on holiday/get fed up/ get bogged down/ you'll have a ready to roll replacement (you could even take turns per season)

Why not ask around in your village ? I'm sure there are other secretaries out there for other clubs or for the parish/town council, or even your local Church. They will have a lot of experience and be glad to share it .
