Cricket is Australia's number one international sport. Rugby League and AFL are the two most popular football codes and swimming is also highly rated. Major swimming championships get a lot of media attention when an Aussie team is competing. Tennis is also popular but not quite as popular as those previously mentioned.

I live in Australia.
Cricket dominates all States during the Summer.
AFL gets a lot of coverage in most States as it is also a National game.
Rugby League is mainly two States: New South Wales and Queensland.
Swimming is indoor at aquatic centres. It gets coverage nationwide during major championships.
Tennis is also nationwide but tends to get most coverage during the Australian Open in January.
The most followed sports team is the Australian cricket team.
Sports stars get the most media exposure in Australia.

Well are we talking about the most played sports or the most popular spectator sports?

AFL is the number 1 spectator sport in Australia, the most sport with the most registered players is Soccar followed but Netball and the most followed sports side is the Australian Cricket side.

Shane Warne is arguably the most high profile sportsman from Australia, and he also happens to be a cricketer. Many sportsmen and women have won the prestigious Australian of the Year Award. Click here to see a list of previous winners, including former cricketers such as Steve Waugh, Allan Border and Mark Taylor.
