| Which record will last for ever??? In the last year, Viv Richards has seen two of his records beaten by Mohammad yousuf. Gilchrist nearly wiped his 56 ball century off the record books a couple of months ago. Gibbs and Malinga raised the bar at the recent world cup. Sobers's record lasted for over 30 years, but it has since been bettered three times in a decade. The one day international records are changing constantly.
It made me think about the records that we think might continue to defy all comers. Keeping Bradman out of this debate, because surely 99.94 will NEVER be seen again in this sport. EVER.
After a little thought, I have concluded that these two records may last for ever.
1) 19-90 Laker. Noone has really come close, and I cannot see anyone ever having the pitch (or the lack of bowling support) to match this
2) When he retires, I believe that noone will get anywhere near Murliatharan's 10 wickets in a match figure. One again, the guy plays for a team where he bowls about 30% of the overs and he also happens to be pretty handy. If he ends up with about 25-30 10-fors, then this will NEVER get beaten.
I would be interested to know anyone else's thoughts. I know people say records are there to be beaten, but some simply are too good.
