I do a bit of volunteer conservation, photography and play as much sport as I can - mostly cricket (indoor and outdoor) and table tennis, but other sports as well. I quite enjoy adventure sports such as white water rafting, for example.

Other than trying to grow plants that should not really growing England, going to Spain could become a hobby, look at the weather over the last few years in England.

When I was younger (and had more time) - I used to build short wave radios, I did this with the use of valves, but I don't bother anymore - valves have been replaced by circuit boards, and there is not fun just clipping these boards together.

Also valves are now to expensive - due to them being obsolete.

I like watching golf, I would enjoy tennis better if the UK managed even one decent player.

Hobbies? Ah, vaguely I remember.. those things one has when one has "free time"....

I can't recall the last time I could count activities as "hobbies": maintaining a house with 1/2 acre garden and looking after a 2 year old was bad enough... but I'm now chair of two charities and have a major community project to co-ordinate (all because of said 2 year old).

Had I the time..

No, I'd fill it just as I do now, with lots more stuff than I can realistically hope to manage!

In principle, though, I prefer doing to watching... and will happily "do" most things (and enjoy them) without them being "hobbies": I don't go out LOOKING for chances to build computers, design websites, manipulate images, produce stuff using DTP and so on... but I end up doing lots and don't mind; I don't go LOOKING for committees to sit on... or events to run... or friends who can use help with their pet project (like running a steam museum) but I'm quite happy to be busy in those ways!

Outdoor pursuits was a major time-waster when I was younger, tennis took over our lives before we moved here and along the way I've been completely absorbed in various branches of academia: in my experience you can get something out of almost anything if you put enough into it!

Edit: OK... I've still "hobby" aspirations in outdoor pursuits... but my 2 year old (despite much encouragement, including an early-years ascent of Striding Edge) appears to be a little way off scrambling the Cuillin Ridge, let alone doing daft things in the Dolomites or in Patagonia, or paddling kayaks down waterfalls - and Norfolk is SERIOUSLY bad news if that sort of thing appeals!!!!

My hobbies include table tennis and badminton, purely because at school they were the only sports I was ever any good at (okay, except rugby, but I haven't played in a couple of years now). Football tackles always took the legs and not the ball, basketball I seem to remember being hit in the head by a rebound, and athletics I was hopeless until we got to 1500m. And only then I was good because no-one else could be bothered.

I do enjoy writing short stories as well, I got a couple of them out a few weeks ago and re-read them - and found myself engrossed in them. Another talent I'm wasting then...

Reading in an important pastime for me since I have a lot of other interests. I have a big collection of fiction & non-fiction books in our home library. other than that, I do Scuba-diving, hiking and a bit of photograpy.

Reading, Cooking, Watching Rugby, listening to music.. do they count?

Used to enjoy going to Festivals and Gigs, but that has dropped off slightly. Used to enjoy playing cricket and golf, but sadly time and opportunities are limited at the moment...

I fish and birdwatch, often at the same time. Apparently if I ever add trainspotting to that list (which I wont ) I get a free anorak. Used to be far more active and play footy and cricket but now as a fat waster I do more seditary stuff.

I'm a bit of a film buff, particularly classic British Comedies including the Carry On Series. I've attended a number of events at Pinewood Studios in that respect and appeared on the telly show "Balderdash and Piffle" last year, researching the word "phwoar!"

Also enjoy cooking and geneology.
