Shambo the bull is slaughtered in Wales

Hello friends of WAT forum. I am back after a long hiatus. Right now, I have come to India for a short break. Well, I am sure many of you here, would have heard the sad news of Shambo the bull, being slaughtered in Wales, as it was having Bovine TB. Shambo was regarded as a sacred bull in a Hindu monastery in Wales. However, the Welsh government officials charged that the bull suffered from bovine TB and ordered its slaughter, when it could have led a life in isolation. I am not sure if bovine TB can spread to humans, as pointed out by the officials. This act by the Welsh government projects that country in a bad light, as it has become a world-wide issue. It pains to see a sacred animal get slaughtered, being a Hindu, and pains even more, being one who respects the value of life. I am sure the authorities in Wales would not have done the same to a human suffering from TB.

Now comes the worst part. The authorities are considering slaughtering all the other animals living in the monastery, fearing that the infection spread to those animals too. This is completely deplorable. I request the members of the WAT forum to react to this issue and appeal to the Welsh authorities to stop committing such unwarranted acts against animals. I am providing the website link of the monastery, where the email address of the Welsh Rural Affairs minister, Elin Jones, is given. It would be a great deed if each of you could send an email to the minister denouncing the idea of slaughtering these animals sheltered in the monastery.

Skanda Vale - Website providing details about the entire issue and the email address of the Minister.

As sad as it is that he had to be slaughtered i can understand it,sentiment or religion should count for nothing in this case or any case,if the law says that an animal has to be put down then it has to be with no questions asked and no exceptions.

In Britain in recent years we have seen farming crippled by BSE and Bird Flu so to make this a special case would have been a further kick in the teeth for all those who have been affected before.

But there were offers to take this bull to India. The officials just ignored these requests and slaughtered the sacred bull.

But then you are moving a bull across country and disease could have spread then, so really there was little choice. What confuses me is how it got it in the first place.
