Well, that's what precisely everyone means when they say Phil Tufnel, aka The Cat, was a character. He has a reputation I think (at least in my eyes) of doing things that are by general consencus wierd and unusual (even when he was playing for England) , so by those standards by appering on reality TV, all he did was remained true to that reputation... ;-) no offence intended to your opinions though, I too think he could have done better things that that but let's face it, it's is a free world, it always has been, people are entitled to do what ever crazy thing they desire to.

There is weird and unusual...which I am happy with. Tuffers the cricketer was a character and cricket was richer for it. jack Russell was a character and cricket needs more of him - his eccentricity and weirdness was welcome relief compared to the automatons, eg Stewart.

However reality tv is not "weird and unusual" or mildly eccentric. It is much worse, or so I am told.

Reality TV isn't that bad, or is it? Or may in England it is. The Reality TV I have on my cable TV can make a good viewing at times...you know, the shows on how certain fireman saved the life of a little child stuck in a tree, or that about 911 stories, there aren't spectacular, but not that bad. I'd watch that if I were bored and had nothing better to do. At least its way better than some of the other stuff that comes on TV all the time, like the soaps on indian channels, or the gossip on E TV

Hmm this is not the right forum or even the right board to have a discussion on modern media so I will keep this brief.

Shows such as 911 etc are not from the genre referred to as reality TV - they are more like documentaries on contemporary affairs.

Not wishing to be too Reithian about it, but TV should either inform, or entertain, and the best TV does either very well, or even both at the same time. Even programmes such as 911 do both and as such are valid.

Reality TV is totally different, things like Big Brother, I am a nonentity, etc etc... these are now the most popular type of programmes in the UK, US, Aus and in fact most parts of the world. This is more like "lowest common denominator" TV - does not inform, does not entertain...just makes one cringe in horror!

Thank God I'm not watching that then. I just love the way you are always quick to point out any thing off topic. I really apreciate that so much.
