!!!!! It's Here at Last - The Ultimate World-A-Team XI!!!

Isn't it crap when there's no decent cricket on, everything goes quiet, there are no raging debates, or big questions to answer.

Oh, I miss you all. It's so lonely on here, there's only Ern to talk to, and quite frankly I think he's a bit funny because he comes from the North. Occasionally there's Jenko, but I'm on a diet now, and he just keeps talking about cake. Sigh!

I even went to the BBC board for a look - but that's just bonkers! There's a war going on between Indian and English posters, and every 3rd thread is entitled "Hey lads, let's just all calm down a bit and get on with each other!" It's nuts! (Now before all of you BBC posters come on here all indignant, I'm not saying the forum is crap or anything, just that the content I've read today just doesn't suit me!)

Then I had an idea - taking total posts as a reference, I'm going to pick the World-A-Team International Superstar XI -

1) Ern* Worlds highest runscorer, doughty Lancastrian who will not be outscored. Captain of the side.
2) Mark Kidger Clinical Opener, scores his runs with scientific efficiency, knocking on a bit now!
3) Rachael Dour Boycottian bat, who eschews all flair and frills in return for her runs. Dislikes allrounders
4) RBLC Originally from Woolygobba Creek, naturalised leg-spinning allrounder with a liking for beige blazers
5) RWS Plays his cricket in Holland, dashing batsmen who bowls occasional left arm Edam
6) Kirsty Harris Baby of the team, young Kentish batslady with a rosy apple-cheeked complexion (from the cider)
7) Richard Jenkins Beefy all-rounder capable of very bouncy balls and fiddling maidens!
8) Oliver Trundling inswing bowler picked from club cricket obscurity to share the new ball. A classic sledger
9) Whips Off the Bails+ Gnarled old 'keeper, known for his hand-speed and for smoking a pipe of "Old Shag" at the wicket
10) Goatman Firey and nasty pace bowler who describes batsmen as 'disgusting micro-organisms'
11) Flanflinger Veteran lob bowler who switched from bad leggies to bad offies. Famous for the 'moonball'

12) Notts Exile Knocking on the door of the team as a wristy middle order bat and for his ability to mine coal.

Coach) TTFC Cricketing genius and legend in his own lunchbox. Qualified nurse, forklift truck driver and it's my bat & ball!

Superb TTFC. I'm very pleased to have made the side, although I must point out I'm a left arm leg spinner, not unlike Mike Bevan or ian salisbury only better. I seldom make sides like this, often on the beeb site when you had the "where are farmer giles etc " role calls I never got a mention, thus destroying my self confindence almost beyond repair. But thanks to you sir, I can now go and collect my protection money with my head held high.

I know, it's a bummer when there's no cricket on the horizan, isn't it ?

Still, only 3 more sleeps to go!!!

I've not been around so much lately because I've been trying to get my coursework completed for a post-grad course I've been doing....I'd much rather have been posting here!!! Sorry to leave you alone with Ernest...I hope it hasn't been too much of a strain on you, keeping him entertained

(note to Ernest: only joking!!!)

I am dead chuffed to be selected in your team...although I always used to bat at number 4 way back when, so it looks you've heard rumers that I am rubbish at the game and, quite correctly moved me down the order!!!

Kirsty

the moonball is ace, it takes the idea of getting the ball above the eye-line to the extreme!!

Phew I dunno Teatime... eight's a bit high for yer akchul Trevor Bailey inspired boil on the face of the strip, but then I suppose I could bat with the tail... hmmm.

But happy to open the bowling... looks like a quite a lot younger fielding side than that which I'm used to. I look forward to having some catches held. Are there no sight screens and lots of big dark trees at each end? Perfect.
Should do well.

Not much of a sledger... trundling in-swing doesn't give me a follow through long enough to chat eye to eye with too many batsmen - not unless they're seven foot three, batting out of their ground and playing everything on the front foot - then they'll be out stumped anyway. Besides I'm usually the guy blamed for eating the "buskits."

I'm occasionally a bit bolshie with the umpires though: "HOW'S THAT?" quothe I on Sunday afternoon, airing my useful chorally trained vocal chords for a particularly pleasing bellow regarding the opposition's young number three: "Is he actually playing a shot?"
Followed by fairly continuous (but polite) chirping at the poor be-jumpered fellow while standing next to him at square leg in the next over.

The batsman went on to make 80 not out. Hmm. He was out before he'd scored.
Don't tend to get more than one of those (outside the liners) per season. And I got mine back in May.

Actually I spent most of the last eight overs cooling down the skipper who was at extreme odds with the umpire at the pavilion end.

Ahh The peacemakers will inherit the earth. Or was it the Cheesemakers?
