I love Indian classical music. The Hindustani type and vocal music at that. I don't know how many of you know or heard about it. Pt. Bhimsen Joshi is my favourite vocalist. I have been to his concerts, when I was in India and his voice is mesmerising. There is no other word. I have never heard anyone sing like him.

As for English music, I hear some songs every now and then. Keating's songs seem to be alright. Right now though, I'm listening to Usher. But this is all a fleeting and I'm sure will soon change.

I listen to that too occasionally, like it quite a bit. Always enjoy Harriharan, and have a lot of respect for Jagjit Singh

I also like a few Noor Jehan songs, those on patriortism always fire me up, songs like Chandnie Raaties and all, no matter what age era it is, or how old or young you are your self, if you have any sense of what good music is, you'll always enjoy listening to things like Yeh Patur Hatan Which Nai Bikte, Mere Naghme Tumhare Liye Hain, etc, those are classics

That's more of light music. I like that as well. Classical music involves singing the Raaga's. It's one of the most difficult of arts. The artists who learn it still follow the Guru-Shishya (Master-apprentice) concept. In this method of learning, the student (shishya) devotes himself to his Master (Guru) and learns from him whatever he teaches. There are some schools in India which follow this method, but they are becoming extinct. It's a very old tradition and back in the old days, when schools were not there, all the learning used to happen in this particular way.

Whoa!U oughtta out up a gurukul in a few years to regenerate interest.U really know a lot abt Hindustani music.I do know abt classical music although its south indian. But still they are fairly close to each other excet for style of singing.About the guru shishya methods-I'd like to mention that it might be receding but won't become extinct thanx to the 'kalakshetra' schools.

I really don't know much about Hindustani music. I hear a lot of it, but never learnt the art. Have always been poor at arts and music in particular . I know there are a few schools which follow this tradition, and they are receding by the day. Never heard of the Kalashetra schools, though.

I for some reason do not like the Carnatic music. They have tampered with the Raaga's (atleast that's what I think). May be it's just the difference in accents.
