Best International Captain?

Its quite a surprise really that we haven't had a poll or discussion on this subject already. Anyway, should be interesting what everyone here thinks.

Thank you for your participation.

I voted for Vaughan because although i am not his biggest fan ever, his record as captain speaks for itself and he has made England one of the best if not the best Test nations.. I hope my vote is fully justified in the Ashes...

I feel Brian Lara is a good West Indies captain as well because he is a huge influence on the young ones coming up... He deserves an honourable mention and he manages to make his team perform well despite the fact that on paper they are not the strongest side ever.

Has to be Michael Vaughan for me - since he took over we've been playing aggressive, attractive cricket & its really nice to see 11 blokes who look like they actually enjoy playing for their country. IMHO Flemming looked ordinary in comparison when the Kiwis came over - I was expecting to be bowled over by the ingenious field placements & tactical descisions but I really wasn't overly impressed.

I voted for Flem, although its fair to say I haven't seen Vaughan in action lately.

I'm surprised at your decision Paoli! I didn't think Lara would get any votes - from his performances against England in the test series last year I found him pretty one-dimensional and uninspiring - including going for personal gain with his 400 rather than going for team glory and trying to win the Antigua test!!

I'm just curious to find out a bit more about what you think Lara has that other international captains don't?

I think all captains are batsmen. Ponting, Bashar, Ganguly, Attapattu, Inzamam, Vaughan, Fleming, Smith and Taibu who is a wickie.

Lara is a better bat than any of those.

I think the fact that Fleming hasn't had a full strength bowling attack in some months now was a factor in England, where maybe he did have innovative field placements etc... but no attention was drawn to them due to the fact the bowlers were unable to bowl to them??

I have picked Michael Vaughan rather than Ponting, because Australia are said to be the best team in the world, that being the case, it would not be hard to captain.

Between Ganguly and Vaughan. India drew the Test series in Australia which was an amazing achievement and Vaughan has done some clever work with bowling changes and field placements.
