Return of The WAT XI v The WAT 2nd XI

Hello Cricket Fans. Many months ago we selected the top two XI's on the board to play each other in an imaginary match. The selection was based on the most postss posted. We then started a thread with an imaginary commentary. As I recall, our imaginary commentary descended into farce with 6's being hit everywhere, run-outs and members bemoaning their (imaginary) poor fielding!

Well time has moved on, and there are many more tremendous posters on this board, and some (like myself) who just don't post as often as they used to. Therefore, the line-ups will have changed, and the teams will have a more international flavour to them.

I've reselected the teams, but as I don't know some of you as well, I'd like you to tell me what part you would play in the team (RBLC, Jenko and Goaty no fibbing or hiding your real talents!)

Here we go then ...

1st XI -

Ernest (ENG)
Rachel (ENG)
RBLC (ENG) - Middle Order Lady-chaser
Zainub (PAK) - 'Keeper
Occasional Fan (CZK)
Flanflinger (ENG)
Beny (AUS)
Goaty (NTH )
RWS (ENG)
Maranello (PAK) - Stubborn opening bat
Admin (ENG)

12th Man - Shaka (PAK )

2nd XI -

Jenko (ENG)
Kirsty (ENG)
Oliver (ENG) - Swinger
Notts Exile (ENG)
Kidge (ENG)
Scott Woz (ENG)
Paoli 69 (AUS)
vvvrulz (IND)
Pete (ENG)
Teatime (CTY) - Fat spinner
Imaginary Diva (IND)

12th Man - Andy Mellons (ENG)

By the way, I'm a fiendish, fat, flighty left-arm spinner, with aspirations of captaincy!!

wow...that's honesty for you! Great disclosure TTFC.

In my (misspent) youth, I used to be an opening bat....

PS: I am moving this to the "Members' and Guest Lounge", where hopefully more members can pariticipate. Is that okay TTFC?

That's groovy Maranello, not really sure where it should go as long as people see it. Opening bat eh? Maybe we'll have to move you up the order!

RBLC- Team "enforcer", cavalair middle order LH bat, part time slow left arm, chief sledger and an eye for the ladies. Field short square leg, or somewhere in the shade if its hot.

I used to be a bit of everything really whenever I played at home. But primary forte was batting, usually in Afridi style. Wasn't a good fielder, only took about 3 catches in my entire life, and therefore in our five a side 5 overs each games my cousin always use to make me a wicket keeper, and that was because in the kind of cricket we played everybody hit down the ground, the ball would never go back, and hence mostly I had nothing to do.

My cousins didn't let me bowl that often, I had to fight and scream to get the ball, and when I did I bowled a mix very very slow deliveries, some seam up, some the other way round, basically whatever came out of the hand instinctly, and had no action what so ever, I reckon my arm must have bent by 25 degrees at least if not more. Although this was uninentional. Honestly.

Gash, I was poor. You don't want me in this team really. I'd be better off doing commentary.

ps: for reference link to the previous such discussion is as follows

You don't get out of it that easy my little sub-continental chum! Every team needs it's 'Iron Gloves', so you've just been offered the wicket-keeping job.

You're bound to have safer hands than Jones anyway!

Oh well if that's what you want, but at your own risk tea time, I really can't asure I'd be any better or worse than Jones. I do suspect though I might make a few cheap runs down the order, i.e. if the WAT 2nd XI bowling poorly enough.

Well, as twelth man, I believe that I am fairly accomplished at making tea - at least according to the lady at home. I can provide a host of alcoholic beverages from the drinks cabinet for those feeling the cold through playing such a silly game in the winter.

Good on you Mellons, I expect to see you wandering out with a hostess trolly at the fall of each wicket!
