Oh I vote, but while I was at Uni a lot of people told me they weren't voting because they didn't want or trust any of the candidates, and thought they were all the same.

I live in the EU: our kids here compete to win prizes at all their sporting events. Same as we did when we were at school. Ask the UK teaching profession where this idea came from: it didn't start with the EU.
I do think alot of the stuff written in the paper's about the influence of the EU is far from the whole truth, OF.

In truth, a lot of good has come out of the Europe - like the Human Rights Act that has done so much to promote the rights of people with learning disability's.

I'm afraid that it doesn't say too much for the education processes, if university level students can't see the wood for the trees.

Incidentally, are you any relation to Jeremy Clarkson? Or to my Dad? They're both grumpy old blokes as well. Come to that, so am I. Are you my brother? If so, when can I have that 50 quid back that I lent you?

I thought it said quite a lot about the level of disillusionment in this country

Only if you replace the bat that you broke on those metal stumps when you played on in the nets last week.

Yes, indeed - but the HRA incorporated into English law the European Convention on Human Rights, and that has nothing to do with the EU. It was signed in Rome in 1950. The European Coal and Steel Community, which was the first forerunner of the EU, didn't even exist then - it came into existence only in 1952.

Now, you won't hear that from Michael Howard, the Daily Telegraph or the Daily Mail, will you?

Yes.

It definitely does say that.

But a University is a seat of learning. In which, one would hope, students sit round discussing the rights and wrongs of...well...everything...

Twenty years ago it was difficult to find a student who wasn't inherently Socialist.
And most of them were completely prepared to argue the point.

There were a few Greens, and a lot of Christians, though there was no party for them to support. Is there now?

But certainly one would think that decisions of a political kind would be made.

I've had a dabble on the BBC website (which will no doubt disappear as funding goes south but thats another story) and if you follow this link http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/vote2005/html/184.stm you'll see how things panned out in my constiuency. I've been here since 2000 by the way.

For those who cant be arsed to look the voting went as followed

Labour 55%
Conservative 26.5%
LibDems 17%

One should point out our MP (who voted against the war) is so far to the left he makes Tony Benn look like a facist.(used to my MP in Chesterfield - God I pick 'em). Seemed an allround good egg.

I can see the rother vally constituency from my bedroom. I any constituency should have WASTED VOTE CENTRAL stamped all over it, this is the one. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/vote2005/html/488.stm

Worth checking out this section for your own home towns.
