Cool The Girls point of view

Hi
I am interested in knowing the girls' point of view of Cricket.
How did they develop their interest in this game? Was it Thanks to their fathers or their boyfriends/husbands...??
What do they like about the game and what do they hate about it...??? Please tell us who is your favourite cricket player?
If the guys are feeling left out of the discussion then they could please tell us what kind of support would they want from their girls???

It's a bit of an odd story, really! I first started watching cricket in 1989, when the Ashes were being won rather easily by Austraila. My dad explained the basic rules of the game, and I took a casual interst in the game for the next year or two - I remember watching Gooch make 333 v India, plus some of WI tour where he broke his thumb.

When the Ashes came round again in Austrailia, I was rather unwell for several months with glandular fever, and couldn't sleep at night. Sky Sports was showing the Ashes, and my Mum had signed up to cabel t.v, so I used to get up at around midnight, take my quilt downstairs and watch the cricket all night curled up in an armchair to take my mind off of being ill!! By the end of the Ashes series, inspite of England's poor performance, I was hooked on the game!!

What is strange is that over the years, my Step Dad has become a big cricket fan too, and he never liked the game to begin with and now my Mum also loves cricket too - in fact she watched more of the last World Cup than I did!!

I'm actually pretty pleased I was so ill, or I probably would be obsessed with Pop Idol or those other naff things my friends like to watch!!

From, my personal observations, as well as after reading the above post, I seem to have concluded, quite interestingly too, that ladies seem to follow sport (and life in general) peddling a Panglossian view of it, which can be quite annoying to start with (because it seems so naive and unpractical) but as you get along, it shows how it has more pros then cons, and can actually prove to be something of an inspiration even at times.

Could you elabarote on what you mean by ladies 'peddling a Panglossian view' of sport/life, as I'm not sure whether to be flattered or insulted. Mind you, I don't much like the sound of it

Lol!

For your knowledge, 'Panglossian' derives from Pangloss, the optimistic tutor in Voltaire's [5]Candide. Its used as an adjective to describe excessive or naive optimism.

Sounds like nearly all the women I know as well. I guess it’s a well accepted fact; men are way more cynical then women. But then that's not the point of this thread. The thread actually asks if any ladies have developed their interest in sports because of their male partners, rather unusually, for me it’s the other way round.

Thanks for your msg...

Hi
Thank You for your msg...
That's definitely one of the unique ways of not only getting introduced but also passing on the 'cricket infection' [if I may say so...]to your family and friends.
So, who is your favourite cricket player?

Hoping to hear from you...

Well, I'm pretty well known for my dedication to the King of Spain, Ashley Giles; whom I stuck up for even when he was being booed (unfairly) by England 'fans'.
