We're talking about ages and ages of history o'er here Teatime, long before even America had presidents, let alone presidents, long before it was even discovered. Let's not forget our planet is roughly four and a half billion years old. Over such a long period of time there are few things that have remained constant. Religion is probably one of them.

I guess its difficult to say who will be the over all most influential person, because you can define influence in so many different ways. An earier way would be to shorten the poll to most influential person of this century.

Gilly??

No seriously, my vote is with Alexander the Great or (some guy who's name I can't remember). Anyway it was the guy who rocked up to the small insignifigant town of Athens in Greece, got off his horse and pointed to the girl he had with him. Then he said something like this, 'This womman is athena (greek godess), threfore you must give me you're alligence', (something like that anyway), and all the athinian's went 'ok'. Now that's influence! BTW the girl was acctualy from just down the road in another village.

Tragically.. I suspect the answer might be Stalin.. because his impact on the world in his own lifetime included not only the complete transformation of Russia, the defeat of Hitler (as much his doing as anyones) and the annexation of Eastern Europe but the fundamental polarisation of the world into the opposed camps of command and free-market economies... a polarisation that then drove a "cold" war (that was only cold for those not living in Africa, Asia, Latin America and so on).

You can say of so many historical processes that "they would have happened anyway".. but I'm not sure that's true where Stalin is concerned: he really does seem to have been the architect of so much that has ramifications to this present day.

I voted Winson Churchill Moss, because had he not taken a stand when Hitler started started to expand into Europe, we may not have been comunicating in this free way today.

I nearly voted Hiltler because he started the 2nd word war, what came out of that even though he was not successful, was the rebuilding of Europe, and the world seem to change, to modernise, maybe not for the good, but hitler by his actions helped to shape this.

Hi UG,

www.aciprensa.com

I know this link brings us to the New Pope benedict XV1.
I am sorry but I know you was trying to put J.E.S.U.S in your link, but it would not work, because that word is edited out, to stop the word causing offence.
I have seen the picture, and can be seen by following my link, and clicking on images.

I think I see what point you where trying to make.
Cheers.

Same reasons as RBLC - mammoth changes, the impact on history for so many nations.
I voted the same and share your sentiments Moss. Hitlers impact is still being felt, I notice that the newly elected "Pope" (Benedict the 16th) previously Cardinal Ratziger of Munich Germany was a member of the "Hitler Youth" (Brownshirts) in World War 2 Germany.

Very interesting : wonder if and how he is linked to "Opus die"

Mandela and Luther-King amongst others tried to bridge the gap between black people and white people....They did it and they should be congratulated...

Moving along, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who I honestly thought would be the next pope has been elected the next pope. I got this thought when I saw him bless Pope John Paul II's tomb....Obviously someone like that would be held in high stead by the college of cardinals....He chose the name Benedict XVI, as I think has been documented.

Well what else would he have said? 'Bow down to me I am you're saviour' ... Man these guy's are getting predictable!

Aker: The Hittler Youth was compulsory for all boys during the late 30's and early 40's. I doubt he sympithises with them.. (even though he does think Gay people are evil and has called for them to not receve comunuion).

As for Opus dei... Dan Brown is an idiot.
