Alright clever-clogs, what about the last 500 years, or even the last 50 years. I'm not talking lost in translation, I'm talking re-written. Where has it said "And God saideth to his his son, its Ok to wear a rubber". Come on Beny you can do better than that.
As Aragon said. You can't perfectly 'copy', one language to another. Certain words have changed and often the writter manipulates the words to say what he thinks it should say.

Quote:
Religious texts have indeed been manipulated
No they havent. Not in that sense anyway. They were written for people who thought this stuff was ok, if not a part of everyday life. Lets not forget that people used to make sacrifices to God and fight wars under his banner. Those are the people who wrote the bible.

but this was not the teachings of the Church, it was the interpitation at local level, a very dark period for Iberia, and Catholicism as a whole, but it brought suffering and terror to the inhabitants of the Iberian peninsula.
The chruch supported it wholesale. They even had a cardinal directing it. I've never heard any evidence to suggest that there were alterrier political motives.

The present form of Bible may have been written by individuals, but its original (unmanipulated ) version was most certainly not written by people (human beings I mean) as you think. As far as I know, both the Quran as well as the orginial version of the Bible (and some other holy scriptures) compile the revelations of God to His Prophets , it is exteremely inaccurate hence forth to suggest that these books were "written" by followers of their respective faiths. They were written by God. And that at least with refrence to the Quran that is an unquestionable fact, beyond any doubt of any kind what so ever.

This could ring true as i noticed at a dinner party that next door had some wonderful steak knives. Also good news becuase mrs next door is certainly worth a seeing to.

Thy shall not KNEEL
Words to live by with my knees

You shall have no other MODS before Mike
Pretty eery that.

I always thought that avatar was Richie Benaud. But I've had another look and it bears more than a passing resemblance to the late Dave Allen. Coincidence?

I tell you what OF, if I was half as funny as Dave Allen I wouldnt be doing my current job. Sitting on a chair, smoking, drinking telling a few gags. Priceless (even though I've quit smoking years ago)

Quite agree: by an order of magnitude the second best there has ever been at what he does (love him, but Milligan, for me, is to what they do what Bradman was to batting).

One of Allen's secrets was surely limiting his own exposure: you felt priviliged every time he did something.. not resigned as you do with so many today. Mind you, with most of the younger generation of comics I'd happily limit them to just about 1 minute every millenium :-).

Rachael you do sound old sometimes

However, must agree with you about Milligan, currently reading "Mussilini my part in his downfall". Great book, not that I can really call it a book now, merely a load of pages held together by will power.

Well, doesn't that just show how well we know each other here? Rachael, I would never have had you marked down as a Milligan fan - don't ask me why not, because I don't know, but there it is! I'm glad there are a few of us still around. As to Dave Allen, I haven't seen him for ten or fifteen years - and now I'll have to wait to see if his God and mine will be going with us in the same place - but I agree that he was one of the best of his day, and the best at what he did. And there's no-one to touch him on the present circuit.

Crikey: need to move on. I'm starting to sound like my own father again!

How about Yes Minister, Life of Brian and (one of the best films ever in my eyes) "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou"?
