I'm Bored Again - Let's Talk Unfortunate Dismissals

What is the most unfortunate way you could get dismissed or have actually been dismissed.

When I was younger and a very, very slow loopy spinner I bowled one down leg which the batsman spun to swat through fine leg, he got a top edge straight onto our ancient keepers forehead, which then rebounded to backwards square leg who took a dolly catch and appealed whilst our keeper was lying on the floor bleeding - classic!

I've also played against two Asian brothers batting together and going for a quick single. They collided in the middle of the pitch, the smaller brother fell over, but the bigger brother stayed on his feet and tried to keep running. Instead of struggling to make his ground, the smaller brother chased after the bigger brother, trying to hit him with his bat, and we promptly ran him out. The shouting and screaming in the changing room lasted for hours!

I'm not bored. For once I'm actually making some progress with my studies and that feels astonishingly satisfying. In anycase to answer your question, I don't have any history as such of getting out in bizzare ways. When I played, I always got bowled or caught. Do we really have to talk about this, can't we instead talk about bad tv shows, I was just thinking of starting a thread on that.

Do I sense in this thread an opportunity to post a link to the Brain Johnston/Jonathan Agnew clip describing IT Botham's unfortunate "Hit Wicket" dismissal?

I do believe so! There's a link towards the bottom of this page from the BBC.

Oooh - and I almost forgot, I got out to a 15 year old girl a couple of years ago when I was captaining our acadamy side. After sagely advising my team of youngsters to treat her with respect, that her bowling was very good regardless of her sex and that she was swinging it miles etc, I slotted a big drive right down long-off's throat, and had to go and sit behind the pavillion for a little while, until the sarcastic comments had died down. Bugger!

A little bit may be. Coming to re think over this, listening to how many of you have often got out to fellow members of my gender sounds quite interesting. So, tell me more about it. What did she say in response to getting you out, I'm sure it must be something interesting (to say the least that is!).

A few years back I was suffering from a bad case of the yips (if that's possible when you bowl dibbly non-swinging medium pace). I just couldn't let go of the ball properly and as a result it tended either to bounce 3 or 4 times before going through to the keeper or end up as a throat high full toss.

To get through one particularly bad over I resorted to bowling extremely slow (almost 'floating' full tosses). The first batsman (eyes no doubt lighting up at finally getting something he could actually hit) stuck the ball straight down sqaure leg's throat. Next ball the new batsman was 'deceived in the flight' with the ball hitting the stumps with just enough force to remove the bails. Unfortunately I managed to bowl a half decent delivery for the hat-trick ball which was promptly caned over mid-off for 4 but never mind...
