ASHES - Care to put your money where your mouth is

A lot of predictions have been made regarding who will win the Ashes lately . I am totally confident of an Aussie victory and there are some in this forum who are confident of an English victory. I have opened this thread so if i see a posting from a member of this forum predicting an English win, i can direct them to this thread to determine how confident they REALLY are or if it is just talk. This is how it will work if there are any takers
(1) All proceeds get donated to this forum
(2) Only English forum members may bet
(3) Only members with 350+ posts may bet
(4) When series is decided, money must be paid before any further posts in this forum by those who lose the bet.
(5) Betting amount is 10 pounds - no more no less (This is just for fun and we should probably donate that amount anyway considering how much we will be using this forum during the series.)
(6) in the event of an English series win, i(Seamer) will donate to this forum the total amount wagered by English members ie ten bets of 10 pounds - i will donate 100 pounds
(7) In the event of a draw, all participants donate 5 pounds, save me, who will donate 5 pounds for each participant
(8) In the event of an Aussie victory, all English participants donate donate 10 pounds.
(9)Unless otherwise indicated, this wager is limited to 11 participants (me included)
(10) Bets close once the first ball of the series starts.
Any takers?

Thumbs up

Seamer, on the basis that this is not a lottery in the sense that neither you nor I can win anything, you can put me in for a tenner.

Good on you for coming up with a money raising idea for the forum.

Being precluded from this wager (<350 posts), I'll have to make up my own rules (the board's equivalent of taking my bat & ball & going home). I'm willing to donate a tenner regardless (yes GBP not worthless Oz dollars), but happy to double it in the event of an England win or a drawn series (so the board gets something for a draw, however minor).

Would normally offer more for the sheer pleasure of reading Ern's optimistic spin (okay, we might be 4-0 down on the scorecard, but if Flintoff had recovered in time for the first test, if it had rained in the 2nd, if Harmison found form in the 3rd and if McGrath's age had led to senility in the 4th we could not possibly be worse off than 0-0, so really this test decides who is the best team in the world). Instead I have to offer a plea of poverty (single income, baby, blah, blah, etc), but hope that I can continue to read Ern's views...

I will be happy to place £10 on England to win by 2 - 1!

Just reviving this thread to see if there are any other optimistic English supporters who may have not seen this thread yet and are keen on a punt. Proceeds go to a good cause. England are playing good cricket at the moment so why not have a go?

Go on then - i'll have a piece of this action. England to win 1-0 but the aggregate totals for both teams will be:

Australia 3128 runs & 73 wickets
England 2791 runs & 68 wickets

Now, I shall not give names, but I'd be hoping a few more would jump on board.

I'm counting on England to win the natwest series - it seems the morale of the English supporters ebbs and flows like a tide depending on how their last game went. If England dominate the one-dayers, i might just get my full quota of ten yet!

Yes, definitely. Well, you'd hope to get more than 10. However, if you took 20 bets, you'd either be a gambler or, by the end of the series, potentially bankrupt.
