Its a good guess but its not right

"who for MY generation was as much known for the fact he ran a sports goods shop with another local sporting hero than his bowling and batting prowess."

Note "running a sports good shop to my generation". doesnt leave much time for playing for england does it ? perhaps he'd retired then ?

I'm trying to find someone with a Derbyshire connection but haven't suceeded. In desperation I'll run through those so bleedin' famous that their cricket must have been more famous than their store: Laker, Lock, Underwood and Wardle.

ps. I am kicking myself becaue I recall someone (might have been my dad) mentioning this fact!

No no no no.

I'm surprised you havent got his one yet ! my age has been documented on this site, as has my former locations! Another clue (totally irelivent but amusing none the less) is that my mate "broke his duck" (so to speak) with the daughter of the other partner of said famous-name-sporting-goods-emporium.

Can you actually get an irrelevent clue? A clue, yet it's not relevent. I'm sure I've heard of this guy, but I can't remember who it is?

Surely you can give us better, more relevent, clues than "my mates knows someone who..." clues!

Errrrrrrm!!! Is it Peter Such again???

Tempting to go for that isn't it. I have to say, I don't have a clue. I'm thrown by the owning a shop thing.

The only other England spinners of Richie's era that I can think of that haven't been tried are Nick Cook and John Childs. Who did, surprisingly both play for England. John Childs made a very late debut as well, as I recall.
