A friend of my father's once went to a concert.. migth have been the Stones... but doesn't really matter. He was horrified to find himself surrounded by KIDS. He just wanted to turn around to them and say "hey, **** off and find your own music". I kinda feel the same way about star wars: the original trilogy was great for it's era... but the new trilogy wasn't aimed at those of us who actually grew up giving a damn.

The first of the new films was surely a new low in big-budget cinematography: it amounted to little more than a feature length cartoon.. and to be honest.. Bambi was better.

This could all have been so much better if these newer films had been aimed at the original audience: it should have been far blacker, more sophisticated and more weighty than all the originals.. and it ended up so paper thin - grrrrr.

Star wars

I saw the first star wars film aged 7 and was understandably impressed (and i'll admit to being a bit scared too!) I collected some of the figures (as small boys do) and swapped them and the dog ate them etc so I have none left! Then i saw the empire strikes back which i thought was ok ish, then return of the jedi which i thought was just puketasticaly 'and they all lived happily ever after'. I watched episode 1 and had the distinct impression that i'd lost 3 hours of my life for no good reason and i'd never get them back (and i like cricket !! ) Episode two was just a slight bit better than having a road accidrn and i'll not bother with the next one. Or the one after. Talk about milking the cash cow till it bleeds!

Hence the duck and cat!

I saw Revenge of the Sith today and it was pretty damn good - the last 45 minutes were even up to the standard of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes back. My only critisim would be that it didn't seem all that hard to get Skywalker to turn to 'the dark side' - it was kind of like 'fancy a change of career?' 'Oh, alright then'!!!

Loved the movie... Just take out the melodramatic, dumb womman (Padmane) who acted compleatly out of character and made me feel like I was watching a really anyoying soapie... Anikan was a weak idiot who also anyoyed the crap out of me. Other than that it was a good film.

Yeah I was pretty disappointed in Padme myself, she served no purpose in the movie it seems rather than to drone on..

But it was surprisingly up to standard with the originals, unlike the first two prequels which fell a million miles short.

The Padme/Anikin segments were a bit of a drain but were probably neccesary for the overall story line to explain why Luke and Princess Leah were separated ect.
As for the movie, it was a classic star wars, cut from the same thread as the others and visually excellent. The beginning sucked me in from the very start and the duration of the movie seemed like minutes (time flies when you are having fun) .The first movie i watched where i did,nt find myself wanting to go outside for a quick cigarette it was that good. The empire strikes back(ep V) still remains my overall favorite but this one comes a close second. Just sad that this is the last one to be made

I saw the three originals in the cinema and was very impressed. In 1980, the Empire Strikes Back was shown as a double bill with Star Wars and it was the best afternoon I had ever spent at the pictures.

However, not wanting to sound too analytical, the increased technology and special effects made the new first and second episodes so pathetic with regards to continuity problems. A double edged light sabre? Why the hell were Darth Vader and Alec Guinness using some pishy single one 40 years later????? The sand people are primitve people in Star Wars IV, but they are seen to be quite developed during the pod race in Episode I. It is this type of nonsense that really leaves me feeling that Lucas simply cashed in on the new generation and couldn't give a damn about the people that lined his pockets in the first place.

Prequels do not work when you decide to increase the special effects to such a degree. These new episodes let me well an truly cold.

Episode 1 was supposed to show the Republic at it height. The ravages of the clone wars follow and then the establishment of what becomes the Empire. As a result everything in the later episodes is supposed to be a bit manky and decrepit to show that everything has been in decline over the intervening years.

LOL ! I can see the initial meeting with the writers and george lucas as they were coming up with treatment for the latest trilogy:

"OK guys, lets make the prequal full of CGIs and make the second look manky""

Quality !
