As I child I wanted to be a singer, in fact I was quite obsessed with those plans of mine. I still recall how I foolishly took up Singing Classes that were held after school by Afshan Ahmed (well known children song singer in our country) when I was in Grade 3. But then I realised I was not good enough, and the singing world was too 'not good' for someone as nice as me (sorry for being so honest: D , hehe!) so I changed my plans. By grade 6 I had discovered by inner sport freak to the full, and I was now religiously staying back after school fours day a week to play whatever sport I could. Being a girls only school my school did not offer any cricket, so I had to be content with throw ball, volley ball, badminton, solo and relay racing and finally 3 legged racing. I managed to school squads for all of them, but for the team sports I was mostly 2nd team reserve (that was down to the fact that I was physically not strong enough as the rest).

To make up for that I got involved in administration. I really enjoyed by duties as assistant to senior sports secretary, who found it difficult to do all the work herself since she was also the skipper the off the volley and throw teams. In my last year at school (by which time I had completely given up on participating and taken the front role in administration) I went with the senior Throw and Volley Ball Sides as Manager, and our school won Interschool tournament for the first time in a long while. It was happy ending and since then I've only wanted to do something that would keep me involved with sports some way or the other. Initially I thought Sports Psychology would be good for me since my teachers at school had told me I had good communication skills, but my local University didn't offer that. In fact when I have searched all majors it offered I didn't really have a broad scope to chose from, my ambitions of pursuing sports related career presented me with the following options, either a 2 year Bachelors Degrees for Physical Education, or 5 years Masters degree in Psychology (General) or comprehensive 5 years Master Degree in Mass Media Communication.

On further research I found out I could take MMS as major and pursue PE or Psychology as minor for first two years after which I would have to choose from between Print and Broadcast Journalism for specialisation. I liked the whole concept a lot, and God Willing I can manage a decent result in my just concluded exams, I plan to follow just that.

Hey everyone
Lemming gets his results for his degree today. As his course is a Masters and is Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics, invlovig lots of space and black holes etc, he could become a 'Master of the Universe'! Good luck Lemming, watch out for that Skeletor bloke!

Am I missing something here? I've never known of a 'music, maths and cricket thing'. Is this a well known phenomenon? Does Harmison create sweet melodies while Freddie is practising his algebra and simultaneous equations?

Music and maths certainly goes very well together. There was a time when practically every member of my cricket team was a musician, and I do know a hell of a lot of accountants who play.

So while I'm merely grabbing at pairs of straws (as it were) I do think there's something in it.

Whoops, I see that I carefully missed your point...

You could argue that Harmison occasionally plays sweet chin music. Presumably on some sort of nose-flute...

I can't imagine Flintoff making music... aside from being something to do with a "modern stoneage fah-mi-lee."

I wouldn't go as far as hating maths, but I spent a year at uni with a load of guys (Lemming included) who were doing Physics, much of which seemed to invlolve them talking in corrdors about sums and equations and big long lines of funny symbols. It used to drive me mad! I actually used to enjoy Maths and was very good at it, but I soon became bored and gave it up when I was 16. I don't hate maths, but I couldn't do it full time.

Maths is good. I can think of better things to do. I don't love it so much that it is a hobby. But doing maths isn't really a chore for me, I do enjoy it. When doing maths it's the only time in life that you can finding yourself actually writing or saying something that is correct, I sort of like the clarity of it. If you follow the rules, you can't go wrong. That makes it fundamental in science, maths is the building block of understanding!
