Alison I think most children are ambidextrous when small, don't know why that should be.

My dughter did a strange thing, she was right handed, and for some reason did her best to become left handed, and she managed it, not supposed to be a good idea that.

Well that's strange Lemming, because the correct way to eat by a right hander, is the fork in the left hand, so it would seem you are eating right handed.

I've heard it is a good idea, it's good for your brain! I've even seen websites claiming that the best thing a rightie can do is practice and do everything with their left-hand, writing, throwing, making a cup of tea etc. It could be a website run by some leftie-crank though!!

That's really wierd. Occassionally you come across males (but not females) who are comletely right-handed except they write with their left. You are totally the opposite which is pretty strange. Maybe you should start writing left-handed, it'll be worth it!

Hey you could be right, she was brainy at UNI, but I have read, that forcing yourself to become other handed, can damage the brain, you read your book, and you takes your pick me thinks.

I can't see how it can do any damage, or else we would be advised to make one hand redundant completely and use only one. The thing is the left side of your brain controls the right side of the body and vice versa. BUT your brain is not symmetric, the bit controling your left hand might be near a creative area (for example) whilst the bit controling your right hand near an area controling speech (for example). Hence using your left hand more might exercise your artistic areas of the brain and make you more creative, but right hand makes you better at French.

I'm not sure but I believe that to be true!

Switching to left-hand was probably the best thing your daughter ever did (unless she is that Ellen Macarthur, in which case tell her to shut up with her moaning)!!

Haha, this is the sort of childish - and quite frankly handist - jip I got at primary school from kids who were right-handed, jealous of left-handers, and couldn't change. Personally I see right-handers as a lesser breed, left-handers are special people with better functioning brains!

It was a BMA book, I have this little room with my PC in, and books and stuff, it is a huge book, and I can't find it.

Anyway I will look for what it said, I think from memory, that forcing yourself to become left hander can damage your brain, strange but it did not mention the other way round.

It did say could, how can I lose a book as big as a bag of poatoes.

To be honest I can't see how.

Hey you never know Ern, your big-little book could be right. There's only one way to find out if it damages you, get a million of them righties and make them do left-handed stuff. See what effect it has on them!
