Of course it's hard work to arrange the Olympics, and of course the pressure is now on us to put on a memorable event, but the way the presentation has been put together shows that we have got what it takes to do it. It has the potential to transform sport in this country for the next generation, and will help put sport at the heart of the political agenda for the first time ever, which can only be a good thing for grass-root sport around the country. I think it's a great day for British sport

I'm just watching the Paris reaction to the decision, and I must conclude that no amount of hassle to stage an Olympics is too much, when scenes like the ones I have seen in Paris are on offer.

By the way London recieved 54 votes to Paris' 50.

I bet he'd light it from over the wicket!

I think you are right Kirsty. There is no doubt in my mind that we - as the best country in the world - that we have no problems at all staging a perfect games.

Your point about transforming the sport in this country is the most crucial one. The Olympics will indeed do an excellent job for the young sportspeople in this country, and I for one do hope that children are inspired with the potential opportunity to compete in London 2012.

Upon reflection I'm sure that the positives out-weigh the negatives. I'm just a bit modest and would prefer the world's attention and pressure to not be on this country.

Yeah but it would be pitched down leg-side and some Aussie commentator would say he was being negative.

And I bet he'll give it every chance to prosper by giving it loads of "air"!

(If David Beckham ends up lighting the Olympic torch I'll scream and leave the country, I reckon the best man for the job will be Sir Steve Redgrave.)

Stand by for all your taxes and cost of living to go up guys!

Maybe they'll now find a use for the Millenium Dome - how about a velodrome?
