Indeed Rachael, the Pope is God's representative on earth. A devout Christian should listen to what the Pope says, in theory. So if the Pope were to say to all Christians "Hang yourselves in my honour", then a devout Christian should do so, as the Pope is God's messenger on earth.

As with the Church business; Non-Practising or practising are the two types. I go to a Catholic school and although I don't go to Church, still believe. Well all religions would like you too attend places of worship, and you could be right in what you say Rachael, but it was Martin Luther (the bloke who founded the Lutheran Church) who said faith alone was enough to send one to heaven.

Alot of Catholics i know are Catholics by name only and don't really ever contemplate their religion.

I do find the Catholic Church intriguing: at the centre is this entity I find myself inclined to detest.... but in practice.. at a local level... I find (almost everywhere) a wonderful theological flexibility that I find most agreeable. :-)

More God fearing than I was 5 yeears ago. Mostly look to the big guy in times of trouble (like most I guess) but do feel comforted as a result.

I think that religion is a dangerous thing.

I was brought up in the baptist faith and worshiped in the methodist church

My passport says CofE, but as I generally only go to church for the standard hatches, matches and dispatches, I'm probably just under the banner of "christian"

I think each religious person should be able to believe in their own way. If for a Christian that means going to church , fine. If they don't go to church, that's also fine. A church is a building, and I think the acts carried out in a church can be done elsewhere without the sentiment being lost.

I used to go to a methodist church when I was younger. My brother went too. However, when we were old enough we were both allowed to decide whether to go to church on Sunday mornings or play football. We both chose football. My Mum must have been devastated; my Dad gleeful.

I'm a Christian, but not in an Anglican or CofE church, though my church is more similar to them than the RC.
