I'm degrading nothing here without suggesting it via a rating!

The process of making the film over so many years it what helped it become the great trilogy that it is...so many people devoted years of their lives to that project, so the sense of lyalty and friendship on the screen was, in many ways, based on the actors own real experiences.

What Peter Jackson did was capture the essence and spirit of the book, and while elements of the book were changed or disgaurder, he remained true to the central themes of the book. A commendable piece of work.

I would also highly recommend an early Peter Jackson film, 'Heavenly Creatures' very strongly - it was a small film, but showed that there was more to him than gory horror films. But that's for the movie thread, I guess...

I loved the film trilogy. The final installment was the bst film I've ever seen, without a doubt!

I've seen that. It's about two girls who fall in love (one of them Kate Winslet), and their parents worry and try to separate them. Then one of the girls kills her mother at the end!

Yes, that's the film. it's based on a true story, whether the girls were 'in love' or mearly dangerously obsessed is another issue. Both the girls were involved in the murder, which was chillingly planned. I belive they thought that by killing the mother, they wouldn't be seperated, which was so illogical that I favour the latter arguement. Anyway, it was a wonderfully crafted story.

When I saw LOTK:TROTK at the cinema, I was pretty much a blubbering wreak from the moment Sam starts to carry Frodo up the mountain to the end!!! Totally magic!! The extended version is even better - have you seen that one? Where you see 'the mouth of Sauran? Yuck!! But kind of cool too!!

Bingo! That is indeed what made it more special. Their hearts and minds were all in it. It wasn't the normal, six month project which you would forget the week after.

The mouth of Sauron was totally gross. But then, that's what one would expect Sauron's lieutenant to be like. It would have been great if everything related to the Paths of the Dead was included in the normal version.

PS: Tolkien categorically stated that his book was not a trilogy and he did all he could to persuade his publisher from publishing LOTR in three parts. All to no avail...

That part was brilliant. Where Frodo couldn't make it and Sam goes: "I can't carry that ring for you Mr. Frodo, but I can carry you!", then grabs Frodo and carries him towards the volcano! That was the best part of any film I've ever seen. Sam was the best LOTR character, the actor who played him was really good.

The best film ever and hence I award it a five star rating: *****

I would say Gandalf was the best in FOTR and Sam surely outdid all others in ROTK. Sadly, neither of them got much credit for their wonderful efforts.

Good to see a ***** rating for ROTK

That was the most sentimental pap I've seen. Most of the film was great -the battle of the Pellenor Fields was amazing. But the Frodo-Sam bits really got a bit annoying. Those scenes were ****, and that isn't a star rating. Overall though, Jackson produced something really amazing with the three films. A remarkable achievement. Potter wins the books battle, Ring wins the film fight. A good bit of off-the cuff alliteration there, for any connaisseurs!

The only Peter Jackson film i've seen is Braindead. Lord of the rings doesn't really seem my type of thing.
