| Am I the only person who thinks LOTR would have made a much better story if Froddo and Sam hadd'nt been there? Onto Harry Pottter... Bought it yesterday and got 370 pages read so far. Another great one... Unless you happen to be a psycho who thinks that it promotes witchcraft and evil... Some people really need a hobby

| Oh dear, oh dear. I wouldn't read Harry Potter if you paid me. No reason apart from not liking the ridiculous amount of hype over it. Its like Star Wars obsessives - i've never got it. The sort of books I read are history books (particularly recent history - Falkland Wars, End of the Cold War... If you don't know anything about the massive events that have happened in your own lifetime, I think its criminal) cricket books (wisden) and then comedy type things (Dave Gorman, Danny Williams etc.). I'm also a bit art-housey with such things - despite being a scientist (I seem to buy more foreign language films than English language ones) The only books I've struggled with are Clockwork Orange - due to the language - and Nostromo (couldn't get past Chapter 7, which was about 100 pages long - tough work). Dumas spins a good yarn. |

| I've just looked at that link. Why does someone write a book using stupid words. It's practically making up your own language!

| It's fairly simple to understand from the film, but i'm pretty sure they didn't use as much of the language as they did to write the book. Quality film though. One day our government will probably send us off for therapy to try and control the public. ID cards are just the beginning |

| He was great in 50 first dates too. Yes, it was a rom com and I'm not proud but it was very funny.

| Sean ASTIN has made loads of films, I think the first was the Goonies where he played Mikey (I think), who was the kid with the inhaler. He was also in War of the Roses, Memphis Belle, Toy Soldiers, California Man and Bulworth. What I found best about him in LOTR was that he didn't sound American! That's tough for an American to do. I was almost convinced he was from a little village in Somerset... possibly!! Oh yes, and thanks for the Clockwork Orange dictionary, Pete. I understood the film well enough, so they must have used a lot less of the language in the film, and when they did the context in which it was used generally aided understanding. |
