But I'm slightly sorry that my preferred method for carrying lunch, newspapers and books to work is a rucksack. Anyway, I understand that five plain-clothes policemen got the suspect on the floor and then shot five rounds into him from extremely close range. Policemen with guns are very brave you know. Not much chance of hitting really anyone in the crossfire.

| The situation in London seems to be worsening. I pray that things will return to normal soon. From what I've read, the man who was shot by the police had apparently no weapons. Surely, it would have been more useful to detain him rather than just kill him on the spot? I, for one, cannot understand the rationale behind shooting him. If he was indeed one of the bombers, he could have proved to be of great value in hunting down others involved in such activities. Let's see what Ian Blair has to say on the matter.

| Three Cheers I should say Hip, hip Hurrah, to Tony Blair, for getting into metaphorical bed with the Americans, and turning London into New York. I have to say that I am reasonably terrified to travel during the rush-hour now, so thanks Tone for stress-building, perhaps you should exempt all London workers from income and council tax as danger money for travelling around the capital. Oh, I forgot you can't. 'Cos you need the money for the bloody Olympics. Fun-fekking-tastic.

| I'm afraid I have no idea who Ronnie Blair is, Oliver Yes, Ian Blair has held a press conference but rather surprisingly and somewhat suspiciously, no question and answer session was held at the end. He's got off lightly there, really. He gave no reason for the shooting but merely stated, more or less, what we've already been told. Hopefully they'll get the situation in control soon.

| I must admit that I'm fully behind the police using guns when it comes to preventing terrorism. I heard that the person who was killed was already restrained, and I'm not sure if he was a suicide bomber or not. If someone is identified as a suicide bomber by the police I believe the correct thing to do is shoot to kill. Afterall, restraint may not be enough when we have no idea how any explosives attached to the person are detonated. These people are clever and could rely on any detonation device, it could even be the flick of a toe or the touching of two fingers. Restraint is not enough I'm afraid.

| Should all of our policemen/women carry firearms? Saves having to waste time by calling in the specialised units when they think there's a terrorist around. |
