Harmison might have been pretty anonymous in this Ashes series since Lords... but he's not been clattered either.. and even in SA he wasn't taken apart. Add in the fact that Pakistan wan't tracks that make Akhtar and Sami effective... and he's likely to be useful.

Hoggard presumably tours and then misses out to a second spinner (namely Batty), leaving Flintoff and Jones to do the bulk of the seam bowling.

To be honet... whilst Pakistan have a couple of decent players who can do a lot single handedly.. I don't think even an England 'B' team would fear them on neutral ground... and I'm not sure the home form will be stunning. If they could string 5 days of cricket together at the level that they have occasionally managed for the odd session here and there then they would be devastating... but then.. so would the current Australian crew - and it ain't happening for them!

All in all... not much pressure on Jones: he could probably shell 50% of his chances without costing England.

India might be a different matter.. but there will have been a lot of sub-continental cricket played by England before then... and the picture will be a lot clearer.

Also nobody made big thing about home sickness when Harmison was ripping through the West Indies in the Caribean. Maybe the unhappy South African tour was as much down to form as it was to homesickness. Also, if it helps let him take his mum, brother, granny or anyone else who will help him play at 100%
