Hmmm. Difficult question this - as a confirmed agnostic, I don't really think that I have a grand purpose. What I tend to try to live by is the adage, "If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well... though there aren't many jobs worth doing". Not a productive adage to live by, but i survive, and i try and fill my spare time with things i can enjoy - cricket, games, meeting friends and the like. I'd also like to think that I would never do anything to make anyone that i like, or anyone i don't know have any additional problems or work (my office usually cajoles me into doing a good job by the fact that if i didn't do it, some other person would end up in a mess taking on my work).

I'm hoping to have a lot more fun, and enjoy myself a lot more when I go to New Zealand.

Was going to have a bit of a party... Too bloody tired though!

Nice Andy,

Life's too short to be taken too seriously.

Life is indeed short, it only dawns to you very suddenly, which is quite scary.

We had many after shocks to the big Oct 8 earth quake, the big one that is, that has killed 70,000+ and made homeless 3.3 million. And there were a few in Karachi too, some of them were not very strong, so not many people felt them, but I did feel one of them. It was quite scary, in fact it was frightenning like nothing else I have experienced before, and even scarier then the actual feeling of your entire world being unstable was the after thought:

if I was so petrified at a five second 4.0 magnitude quake that only moved the table I had my hands on and the chair I was sitting on, although a pretty strong shake at that, then imagine the position of those that were faced with a 7.6 magnitude quake that lasted for almost 2 minutes and had about 900 after schocks, some of which were on their own of 5.5 magnitude - I think I might have died just of fright.

My perspective on life has changed after that. I like to ask my self every day when I wake up in the morning what I would have done if I knew I was going to die today, and then I try and do if not all at least some of those things that spring into my mind.

Although I do have one question that is sort of tied in with this subject. When you die, assuming that you have no beliefs. Do you: Go to heavan? Re-incarnated? nothing happens? How can you do these if you don't believe?

Simple answer, you don't know. Only people who believe have the right to know this, the rest, I have to say, shall have to live in curosity all their lives and die so.

Interesting quote I came across a while back, not sure who said it, but probaly was some one reasonably well known, if anyone knows, do tell me

"if there was no God, there would be no atheists"

I have no idea but it's very true, although it's just a case that an atheist doesn't "believe" that *****...believe, that word crops up a lot in religion.

What do you think I'm nuts? I hear they're having it in Iraq this year just to change the scenery a bit.

Yeah but fundamentaly wrong... That's sort of like saying if there were no Aliens, then there would be no people who dont belive in Aliens.

Vrock, at least in the christian faith, 'salvation' is dependant on belief. I assume that's the same for the other faiths too but it's that whole after death thing that gets so contradictory and confusing that I dont think the pope knows what is meant to happen.

Guys - I am writing an article (not to be placed here) on purpose, would anyone object if used some of your quotes

I will do it annomously, but some of them have been very profound and I would love to use them

the quotes I would like to use are below - please let me know if you do object via a PM...

"to do the best I can"

"I think there's something God wants me to do, although I'm not entirely sure exactly what it is yet"

"I see no purpose of my life whatsoever and have not tried to find out either."

"Have a good time really"

"I have absolutely no idea what my purpose in life is. I never have done, and I'm beginning to wonder if I ever will. I tend to bounce around stuff, never quite fully committing or understanding. I don't have a trade, I don't have a lot of money and I am not a fiercely driven man. Beer, Pasta and Biscuits make me happy, but as I have recently been diagnosed as diabetic I can't really indulge in much of those any more."

"Not a productive adage to live by, but i survive, and i try and fill my spare time with things i can enjoy"
