Keep wicket and have been known to put in a few useful performances with the bat.Highest score of 68 and quite a few scores of over 30.Generally bat at at 6 or 7 though did have a season at 3 as we lost 3 bats in one winter and i was the one who was sacrificed.Have lost large chunks of seasons due to knee trouble and now parenthood but love to play when i can.

I play leisurely and do everything. I bowl medium(ish) pace, leg spin and off spin. Batting I tend to just hit the ball as hard as I can but I have a relatively decent pull shot and slog straight down the ground. So a bowler it is for me.

Ars - you have never seen a poorer batsman than me. However - SHOCK HORROR! I'm going to get some one on one batting coaching this winter in an attempt to break my horrendous slump of the last two seasons.

July's scores should give you an indication of the problem -

2nd July - Bowled for 0 (2 balls)

9th July - Ct behind for 1 (4 balls)

16th July - 35 not out (12 balls 6x4 1x6)

23rd July - Bowled for 0 (2 balls)

30th July - 10 not out (3 balls 2x4)

It could actually be attention deficiency disorder!

Possibly... but it could be technique... do tell us about the 16th July... I wonder if they'd like some games down in South West London.

I wonder if you should swing your bat through the line of the ball, instead of all the way across it.

Either way, I'd give my eye teeth (actually, I've given those already) for that sort of stroke play.

I'm just a Rachael blocker.

Me and Spiros the Greek Legspinner put on 50 together for the last 3.1 overs of our innings - the opposition weren't very impressed - particularly as I called for a bigger bat after the first three balls I faced. Spiros batted well, he hit 2 big sixes (straight ones) and seems to take it as a personal affront to his manhood if he doesn't hit boundaries!

TTFC. You averaged over 15 in July. That would put you near the top of the averages in some teams I played in! When you swing the bat, are you looking at: (a) the ball, (b) a row of houses just beyond deep midwicket?

It's OK to look at the row of houses, but only after you've looked at the ball and given it a good beefing in that direction. I speak only from observation rather than direct experience. The only time I ever hit the ball off the square is when I edge it to the slips.

I think it's only fair at this stage to describe my array of shots before we get into the realms of TTFC the 'big hitter'. Imagine if you will, a baseball batter's arc of shot. If I connect with a ball early in my arc it scuds through cover at waist height, curving gently towards square in it's flight. If I connect in the middle of my arc it screams through mid-on/mid-off at ankle height, and I have actually hit a few bowlers in their follow-through. Anything on middle or leg becomes the bog standard moo-shot through mid-wicket. I am also adept at the top edge over point and the chinese cut.

I am however, proud to announce that I have invented a new shot this year - the 'Pivot-Moo' which has been most successful. Use it only against off spinners or very slow, very straight medium pacers - and it rarely works more than once against any bowler. As the unfortunate bowler lets go of the ball, step smartly outside your off stump, and turn to face square leg. As the ball draws level with you, shovel the ball high and hard over deep backward square leg, place your hands on your hips and laugh heartily with the 'keeper.

It works a dream!

I'll bet you have, you wily old-stager. You'd bowl a length ball first up, which I would swat away, and I'm guessing that the next ball would be right up on my toes, swininging into middle and leg, and I would be too stupid to block it.

One of two things would then happen. I would lose my leg stump or I would underedge it through backward square for a single, whilst you yelp in agony at the close shave!
