I'm sure Flintoff has it in the bag already. These things are usually cut and dried and I can't see who else could possibly beat him.

Flintoff will win as most of the voting is done on the night.I only said Crouch as it would be funny to see him on the shortlist on the night. If you were voting for another sports star then A P McCoy deserves a mention for his sheer brilliance over a decade.

I nominated Ashley Giles!!! After all, he did score the runs that won the game that won the Ashes!!! Seriously, though, I will vote for Flintoff on finals night - a deserving winner!!

The funny thing about Sports Personality of the Year is that they always mange to produce a really dull show, regaurdless of how much thrilling sporting action there has been....too much chat and not enough action, I think.

hi all, thanks for the reply,

this comes from a BBC article i read..[the adress http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pre...sonality.shtml]

"Strong candidates for the main award include cricketers Andrew Flintoff and Michael Vaughan, sailor Ellen MacArthur, athlete Paula Radcliffe, tennis player Andrew Murray and footballers Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and John Terry."

now no disrespect to michael vaughan but, why would he deserve it more than freddie?

I don't think anyone is saying he deserves it more than Freddie, just that he deserves consideration for his excellent Captincy which played a big, big part in securing the Ashes for England. He may nick a 3rd place finish, although my prediction would be 1. Flintoff, 2. Radcliffe, 3. Murray.

Andrew Murray can be SP when he wins Wimbledon, and not before!

Why Wimbledon? I'd rather see him win the French.... or emulate what Henman did in winning the Paris Masters and sustaining a top 10 ranking.... or get talked about as the "king of clay": Lendl became one of the great players of the modern era without winning at Wimbledon.... and Ivanisevic won Wimbledon without ever becoming a great player!

I'd consider Colin Montgomery for the BBC award for this year: winning the European order of merit this year has been a sensational effort.

Yeah, but Monty hasnt got much of a personality. Or am I missing something. Gerrard could be in the frame for his liverpool exploits but as he's been pants for england (as has everyone else) I doubt he'll win. Got to be freddie.

Although I've read, rightly or wrongly, that the actual winner for a couple of years has been match fisherman Bob Nudd MBE, but the BBC bins all his votes because it doesnt class fishing as a sport.

So now you know !
