I feel I should mention Jon Dakin - left Essex to rejoin Leicestershire in December 2003, and then sacked by Leicestershire for being overweight and not wanting to do a thing about it as I recall by November 2004! Can't remember the exact facts, but I think that's the long and short of it.

Not sure where he is now though, but i guess if he's no longer playing cricket, he may have swelled up even more!

Actually, see this http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/ci/co...ry/135990.html it says he was dismissed for "not fulfilling the fitness clauses in his contract". Sounds like too many pies to me! Surely no one else has been sacked for eating all the pies, hence, Mr. Dakin must head the list!

Now I don't know what the whole situation was poor old Johnny Dakin, but sometimes I really wonder if it would have been worth to be born in another era, when professional sportsmen didn't need have a figure like that of Prince William to be successful.

I quite liked Jon Dakin - he was a useful all-rounder who did a job for Essex when Ronnie Irani was incapable of playing 2 games in a row! Shame he appeared to have the wrong 'attitude'!

Alas, the meat-pie sportsman is a dying breed, and I think the world of sport will be poorer for it. Look at the chubbies, and the kind of people they are ... Rob Key (my favourite - a comdeian at work on the cricket field) ... Dakin sounds like an entertaining kind of guy ...

And then there's Inzamam ... the crowds in Pakistan are probably the loudest in the world, and a great roar goes up when one of their batsmen does so much as hit the ball off the square. But the loudest cheer of the whole Pak-Eng series had to be when Inzamam chased a ball from short mid-on all the way to the boundary egde. The cheer lasted a long time ... the minute or so it took Inzi to reach the ball, as he chugged along at a near-sprint (he never sprints full-out, does he) ... and the 10 minutes or so it took him to walk back to his oroginal position, exhausted pain etched all over his face. It looked like he was about to stop several times, but realised he had to keep walking until he reached his position.

Inzi, we salute you. Give that man a pie!

Yes, Mang. I totally second that. Inzi is priceless, in every sense of the word. I think he deserves in entire pie story, not just a pie.
