| The New Zealand contracts are tiered from Number 1 down to the last man picked. Each one gets a different amount (apparently). Marshall, as a professional fielder, must have been at the bottom of the list. Good riddance to him anyway. He doesn't deserve a place in the team.... I'm also hoping this means that Bracewell is going to resign. |

| I reckon you're not a Marshall OR a Bracewell fan Andy I understand the tiered system, because its much like SA too. But I am sure there are other "perks" to consider when playing for your country, like endorsements, lots of free stuff... |

Frankly, a player should not be playing international cricket because of the perks. They should be playing it because they want to play for their country. If this is how he reacts to getting a contract, he's no great loss. Stay in England, Hamish. |

So, you reckon "more deserving players" will be picked when Bracewell goes ? Like? |

| Mathew Sinclair is the obvious example - and he's probably the only one who would be a better fielder than Marshall. Hopefully people like Ryder, Taylor, Vincent etc. will get more of a fair go! |

| Sinclair did not get his contract renewed, right? And I believe because of that he has considered making a move to SA, England or Australia...http://content-rsa.cricinfo.com/newz...ry/296534.html Quote:

| At 31, he is too old and at the end of the day, he is not good enough for the baggy green. If Pietersen couldn't cut it in S.A, then what hope does Sinclair have. His best bet is England, but i don't think he is good enough to represent England either to be honest. His best bet is to put his head down, score a heap of runs in the NZ domestic comp, and get back into the N.Z team. If Hayden, at 36, can fight his way back into the Aus WC team, then i am sure Sinclair, at 31, has a chance too

| I do not believe Marshall's departure will pose much of a problem to the NZ selectors. He has not made any contribution to the NZ team for quite some time now. |

| I had the feeling Hamish Marshall was going to turn out to be NZ's version of Graham Hick (who, conveniently) also played for ND as an overseas player...). Lately Marshall's domestic record has been pretty impressive, especially in county cricket. But apart from a good start to his international career he's been average to mediocre. Sinclair was headed overseas for the same reasons Marshall is - the pay is better! I doubt he was hoping to get into the Aus or SAf international sides (despite actually being Australian). I have always been interested to see how well a 'top' NZ player would do in Aus with proper pitches to bat on and proper bowlers to deal with.
