Cricket: Andre Adams signs with rebel Indian league
After constant rejection at international level, 32-year-old Auckland all-rounder Andre Adams
has opted for the lure of the US dollar, something he says neither he nor his family could turn
down.
The move comes after a frustrating period where he clashed with national coach John Bracewell
and could not force his way into the test team for Bangladesh earlier this summer.
That is despite 29 wickets at 8.27 a piece in the first class season.
Adams' contract means he is still available for New Zealand domestic and international cricket
and the lucrative English county circuit.
Adams says his fractious relationship with coach John Bracewell has not helped as they have
"never seen eye to eye"; and his coming out publicly about his non-selection has not helped.
He says he and Bracewell still have not sat down for a chat together.
Adams leaves having played 42 one-dayers and a solitary test, a win almost six years ago against
England at Eden Park where he took six wickets.
He is contracted for 102 days a year in India over three rounds of the league, covering much of
April, October, November and December and will leave Auckland by the end of the month.
I can't blame him, he's not likely to picked for New Zealand under the current administration so why not make some coin. It's a shame though that we're losing another cricketer to this Indian hit and giggle fest and raises concerns over just who else New Zealand could lose.
