vettori as captain and sinclair in . . .

what do youse think?

vettori's should go ok - i would've gone for someone like oram though he's going home for the odi's for some reason. while oram has more captaining experience vettori has more international play so it's a bit of a curly one.

sinclair i think is a good pick and should have been in the squad for the england tour (in place of macca - but thats easy to say with hindsight) but that could just be me showing my CD bias . . .

oh yeah - forgot to say:

i'd've liked to've seen butler in the squad for bangladesh as i think we'll need some decent firepower in aus later . . .

and is anyone from nz having issues with cricinfo at the moment?

Should be interesting seeing what type of a leader Vettori is, I have never known if he as the cliche goes 'captaincy material' - has he led any teams previously in his pre New Zealand career?

in short, no

he actually has very little domestic experience. he was selected to the test team on the weight of a handful of first class performances and has been playing internationally ever since.

this is where the pro-oram argument comes from, he's been captain of his provincial team for several seasons before he was promoted to international level, where he's only played for a couple of years. of course with oram flying home at the end of the test series it all becomes academic really . . .

'people in the know' have been saying that vettori was the 'next captain' for a while, saying he has a 'good cricket head' and 'plenty of respect' from the players, admin and of course the fans. there's no real reason to doubt them until he's had a go

I think Oram's being rested as well, but your argument is interesting to say the least. What type of skipper was Oram for his provincial side - was he the "lets play the waiting game" type or "lets see what I can do differently" type?
