Thanks, Beny. I'm now going to re-read this thread and see if I can find any logical reason at all why LOTR got a mention here! As to this TV business, still not convinced! Did a bit of research recently to see what it would cost to get an installation here which would give me access to Sky Sports and Channel 4 (the UK's cricket broadcasters). Unfortunately, as neither is licensed to broadcast to the Czech Republic, this can only be done on the quiet/black market/illegally. And the going rate is about a thousand pounds a year (call it $A2,500 and you're not far off it). That's before I even buy the kit! I'll settle for radio coverage on the web, I think!

A thousand pounds in this country buys about 2,500 pints of beer, which is eight pints a day for a year if you take Sundays off. So you see, it's quite a lot of brass!

I see you were investigating the Illigal route...

That's insane.

Sounds like he hasn't changed much since he was the leader of Southern Rhodesia in the 60s/70s.... Oh, wait a minute... That's a different Ian Smith!

Seriously though, surely there are other Kiwis like Martin Crowe or Richard Hadlee that people could use. Even Adem Parore, he was always good for a contraversial comment or two!

LOL..Ian Smith can be funny, but knowledgable he is not (that's the Kiwi cricket commentator, not the Rhodesian politician).

IMO two Kiwi commentators who sound pretty good are Parore and Jeremy Coney.

I love Coney - his pitch reports at the start of home Tests (or ODIs) are collectors' items, starting off with 10 mins on the geology of that particular part of Kiwi-land ...going through the soil, the undersoil, the water table, the inner crust, the rock formations...and all that just to say it will have uneven bounce! I half-expected him to bring in the implications of all this for the brave peoples of Middle Earth . . .

Ian Smith just loves sticking it to the Aussies. Like everyone else I guess but you just get the feeling that he enjoys it just that little bit more.

Gash, I'm about to sound so girlish in a moment or two, but the honest truth is that I don't think I like Ian Smith's acent too much.

Speaking of acents I really think international cricket could do with a few more blokes of the Hugh Grant-isque accent...we had Ed Smith for a while, and now Strauss is nick named Lord Brockett but other than that I can't think of any one else, no comentators even with an accent like that. ..how sad...!
