| I do not see the advantage to allowing them in. In the first place, we would struggle to fit them in to an already full domestic schedule. Secondly, it is not Australia's responsibility to prop up the NZ domestic competition. Allowing them into our competition will not help NZ essential problem - lack of a large, quality player pool. If you allow the NZ teams into Australia, it will only weaken our comp, and i doubt that many of the state players would enjoy the prospect of being forced to go to NZ twice a year to play. No, we are two seperate countries and we should stay that way in all areas

| What about another idea then: the Kiwis could allow Australia to join their domestic competitions. They could be called "West Island" or something uncontroversial like that.

| Thanks, Zainub. When the Aussies wake up, I bet they'll have a good laugh as well. Just before they report me to the immigration authorities as an undesirable.

| Extract taken from "Seamer" reply "it is not Australia's responsibility to prop up the NZ domestic competition. Allowing them into our competition will not help NZ essential problem - lack of a large, quality player pool" If player pool sizes are going to be a yardstick to domestic team criteria , then the Australian domestic comp needs radical surgery very quickly because Tasmania and South Australia have the same essential problem as that "Seamer" eludes to "essential problem - lack of a large, quality player pool". Australia needs strong quality opposition to keep public interest and the game flourishing on an international level I dont veiw it as Australia's responsibility but more as in Australia's best interest to help stengthen if NZ want it , the NZ comp. We only have to look at this summers international cricket in Australia to see the public interest wane in over one sided competition even if it is their own team dominating. Remember that Australia has one third of the population of England , thus less of a player pool. The quality of a stronger domestic competition also has a part in producing a stronger NZ side and hence stronger more interesting international competition. |

| as a new zealander i think this is a pretty good idea (ignoring the logitistics) though i can identify with seamers concerns in that i think NZ cricket has more to gain from this than Oz do. NZ batsmen will get used to fast bowlers on fast pitches (and beamers - hahaha), spinners on spinning strips and generally raise their game. you could argue that Oz players would get used to playing cricket in the rain on pitches which have had the groundwater pumped off them and dried out by a helicopter the day before - but i understand that's not really too different from bellereive . . . i know nothing about the domestic game in Oz apart from the names of hte teams so don't know how easy it would be to schedule in two extra rounds to each competition. also, i think the point about the dilution of the Oz compitetion is pretty valid - especially given NZ's form at the moment - i'm not sure if they could scrape together two competitive teams currently NZ only split their cricket into Nth vs Sth for one one day game a season. it may be practical at first to create (yet) another competition (schedules willing) playing only one day games between the seven + two states in a 'super 12' style replica, i don't know i expect it will happen one day (once kerry packer buys new zealand or something) as the two countries are more similar than they are different - much as we hate to admit it. |

| There'd be a disadvantage to New Zealand...It'd weaken their own domestic structure...Same in the NBL, there could be your Pero Cameron's in the NZ league, instead their in the Aussie League....NRL however is different...the top NZ players (eg Jones, Sonny Bill) would be in the NRL anyway even if NZ didnt have a team |
