Tsunami Appeal Match

RoW won the toss and have set the Asia XI a target of 345.

More importantly, Cricinfo reports that $3.5 million has been raised today. (Aussie dollars, I think, but I'm not sure about that.) Contributions can be made through the text commentary page on Cricinfo if you wish to do so.

poor match. Asia off to a superb start. if only sehwag hadn't got out then maybe things would be much different. he was on fire. as a result asia have collapsed.

razzaq was the worst player of the day. did jack, well apart from bowling about 2 or 3 extras an over. youhana was rubbish aswell. if only inzy and akhtar had been fit to take their place.

anyway there has been tons and tons of money raised. it is fantastic! toyota were donating 50 grand a six and £ mobile were donating 1 grand every run. its been a storming success and i hope the one in feburary will be just as successful

Indeed. More than $A14.6 million, according to Cricinfo. Great stuff.

On an unrelated matter, but one which took place in this game apparently, does anyone know what this is all about? Shane Warne being shown a yellow card by Billy Bowden. Something new in one-day cricket for 2005? I've never come across it before.

Billy Bowden took the yellow card out because Shane Warne tried to leave the ground while there was one more ball to bowled.

I think he really thought that it was the end of the innings, and they had call him back to his crease.

I never seen the yellow card been used in cricket before. First I thought it was joke, and Bowden was joking around, but he looked serious to me. When did this come in to cricket?

I hope this was something specific to this occasion, and will not be instituted in all ODI cricket. The umpires have enough signals in their armoury to get along perfectly without having to resort to coloured cards of the kinds used in nurseries for infants.

As Hondo says, Billy looked pretty serious in the picture.

Well I been told by a friend that Andrew Denton offered to pay $10000 to the Tsunami Appeal if Warne actually tried to leave the ground while the match was in play. Apparently Andrew put him up to it during a radio interview with Warne, and he accepted the challange. So most people in Australia knew about. I don't know how true this is though.
