New Zealand to be toured by a "World XI"

NZC were going to have a $3.5mil loss because of Sri Lanka's decision to return home (which is alot considering their economy is shot), so a World XI has been strung together. Squad:

1.Shane Warne (c)
2.Muttiah Muralitharan
3.Heath Streak
4.Andrew Flower
5.Lance Klusener
6.Chaminda Vaas
7.Kumar Sangakkara
8.Nathan Bracken
9.Ian Harvey
10.Andrew Bichel
11.Justin Langer
12.Sanath Jayasuriya
13.Michael Bevan

Why not a Dominic Cork or a Mahela Jayawardene, or a Daren Ganga. Still, this team will be semi-competitive.

Really? When will these matches take place, how many matches will there be, and how will all these players fit this extra tour into an already over-crowded calendar?

I think it will be very competitive for the Kiwis, if everyone turns up! Warne is a very good captain too, should be quite a contest between him and Fleming.

PS: looking through the list more closely, I see that most of them are either Sri Lankans, or are not international regulars for their countries, with the exception of Warne and Langer, who are both out of the VB series as they don't play ODIs.

Seems like a load of old nonsense to me. If four SL players can take on this tour, why can't they go back and play the original tour matches.

because many of the other sri lankans cannot Milo. They have lost lots of friends and family!

hmmm i think this team shouldn't be a problem for NZ. they are a fantastic ODi side. probably one of the best. infact in today's all 3 nZ players made big contributions

Steve Fleming played a belter. 29 and a catch.

While not bad, not huge.

Yeah, is "Zulu" still part of the South African ODI squad? Streak and Flower can't play for various reasons, and the Australians would walk into most international teams. Pity is, they're not Pakistani, Indian, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, Zimbabwean, South African, New Zealander, English or West Indian!!!

I'm not sure myself, but that looks like a decent enough team to make a good contest out of the series.
