Why is Hoggard struggling? One would have asumed with the weather down there in East London the ball would have swung and seamed a bit and helped him, but no he's going at 7 an over, is he bowling rubbish or are Smith/Kallis actually playing well?

At least Gough is doing the biz.
I agree with you re Hoggard not really being a one day bowler but he was available after the Test tour and had just bowled well. For me the length he bowls means batsmen can get after him too easily.

Re Anderson: they're not playing him because he's been rubbish all winter I suppose. Both he and Wharf were carted around against South Africa A and neither have appeared since.

I'm very much one for picking the best team to do the job. If this means only having five or six players who play in both forms of the game then so be it, the two forms are different so the best players are likely to be different.

Is this a three-hundred pitch? 'Cos I'm getting the feeling that they're on their way to a big total.

Things haven't exactly started off very nicely for Kabir Ali either, Kallis dispatches him for a 4 of the first ball of his spell, England need a wicket very soon.

I don't know, I only saw about 0.3 before switching the telly off, hopefully Ali will take a wicket soon and that should stem the flow of runs a bit, and Giles will be expected to bowl well, England can't possibly afford for him to be taken for a lot of runs too when Hoggard has already been carted and things don't look to good for Kabir Ali to start with.

Problems for Michael Vaughan.

ps: Collingwood and Tresco into the attack (already)
