| 2nd ODI: West Indies v South Africa South Africa have won the toss and West Indies are batting first. Game has just started. If anyone knows of a web feed somewhere, please could you let me know?

| An unspectacular start for West Indies, Hinds going for 3, Lara a fourth ball duck, and WI are 40-3 off 14 overs.

| 42-4 WI. Looks unlikely to be a close game. WI really have looked poor in both Test and one day. They showed the table of one day International sides I think England are eighth. Hardly comforting for playing the Aussies. India are well down as well. |

| England are sixth in fact, John. But anything can happen in one-day cricket, so I wouldn't worry too much about the ranking of Australia and England in this regard. (I am a bit biased: I really don't care either way how the ODIs go. Only The Ashes matter!) Link to the ICC website here.

| In the first seven overs of their partnership Chanderpaul and Bravo have added just 7 runs to the total. I can't ever recall seeing such slow batting in a ODI. WIs hadn't reached 50 in 20 overs. |

| My memory has never been great. Thanks six is right. Yes the Ashes are all important but i would think England would want to put in a credible performance because being badly beaten in the ODI will effect the Ashes. WI 50-4 |

| That's true, John. It's not great planning by England to have the ODIs before The Ashes in my view - but I think it is tradition. I would much rather have seen the summer reversed: Ashes, ODIs, Bangladesh. But as I say, it is traditional for The Ashes to be in the second half of the summer I think, so it was never going to happen. That said, we really didn't need to give the Aussies quite so many ODIs to get used to conditions (likely to be ten in total assuming they go to the final of the NatWest Trophy). Again, I'd have preferred to give Bangladesh three tests and maybe let the second of the ODI competitions go (i.e. the one that Bangladesh are not involved in).

| Thats one dayers for you. Champions last year ICC trophy and now nowwhere. It's not if a lot of players retired and are no longer playing. They beat SA last year at the ICC and now SA look like they call all the shots. So what happened in the Test matches continues in the one dayers. Will this follow for Australia/ England ? |

| Can someone please explain this scorecard to me http://www.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2...08MAY2005.html Windies innings run rate 3.04, topscore Chanderpaul with 36 0ff 95 balls, strike rate just 37 South Africa innings run rate 4.7, topscore Dippenar with 60 not out off 78 balls, strike rate 76 (which is respectable) This couldn't be down to the pitch then, was this just a super class bowling effort from SA or down right inept batting from West Indies? I haven't seen the match so any help would be nice. Thanks. |
