Exit Symonds! And apparently he didn't know it was he who should be off. But off he certainly is.

Thumbs up

Now, like VF, I can't see England winning this one, but as VF mentioned right at the beginning of the day, England's performance overall will be as important in this dead rubber as the result. And it is great to see eight wickets going down within 47 overs. These Aussie guys can be bowled out, and reminding them of that whenever we have an opportunity to do so must be to the good.

Aussies have done well at making a mess of last 10 overs, will end up about 20 short of what they should have got.Still a tough chase though.

So, 261-9 off 50 overs. Some talk on the radio about the possibility of bad weather this evening, which will be a real shame if it happens. I always hate to see matches which are weather affected. Unlikely to hear much of the England innings, if any, so enjoy it without me, folks.

I dont think we've done bad there. I still dont think we will win, but we did well to restrict them to 261-9.

down south here we have a massive thunder storm and lots of very heavy rain, but it's heading east rather than north.

I think we bowled well on the whole, another poor performance by gough though, dissapointing to see, i don't mean to kick him when he's down but i'd rather see a poor performance by tremlett or one of the other standbys as at least they can improve and get experience.

Importantly all the test bowlers had good spells, lets not forget that australia has the best one day and test batting line up in the world, every single one of their players is 'world class' and would walk into any other team, to effectively bowl them out for 261 on what appears to be a good batting wicket is a good performance.

The annoying thing is, because it's a day nighter, we can't actually tell how good or bad the england batting is as they'll have to try and score quickly before the night comes in knowing that when it does you may aswell pray as you'll never build an innings. If it was a day game i'd say we had a reasonable chance of getting that score, or very close to it, as it's a day nighter i think we'll be lucky to get to 180, our only realistic hope would be mr duckworth and lewis

lost the feed to radio 4 and heavy weather approching, so the computer will be turned off as i don't thing 2.6 giga watts /amps/volts (delete for accuracy) or whatever lightning produces surging through it will help much (might make it go faster though!)Looks good for England. Whenever Mcgrath bats, Australia seem to loose. (stats to back this up someone?)

looks like it's about to be rained off for the night, seeing as they're already lowering the flood light cranes, oh well, i'm off out now anyway but it's a dissapointing end.

tresco swinging and missing several times to lee and mcgrath, although he has just hit lee for 4 so not all bad.

see you on the 'morrow

three cheers for Nelson by the way, huzzah!
