Flippin' weather...

Aw, I'm gutted, the game was rained off. Strauss had hit McGrath for 4 fours in an over but had just got out to him in the next over by mis-timing a leg glance off the front edge to mid on - strange dismissal. I think it would have been a cracking chase as D&L rules I think help England slightly, even though the weather conditions clearly favoured the Aussies. I think England bowled well, but it was our batsmen that I really wanted to see perform against them. Oh well, just have to wait until Saturday. At least it's not a day/nighter which is just a waste of time in England I reckon...

GD McGrath - has had 56 innings for Australia:

Won: 9
Lost: 44
2 tied matches, and obviously yesterday's was called off due to rain.

Shame about the weather yesterday...it was looking set to be a cracking contest!!

I think England probably had the edge, both in terms of the state of the game and mentally...I saw that Hayden got rather hot under the collar with Simon Jones and (of all people!) Paul Collingwood after that little incident! I'd love to know what Colly said to him!!

Naughty boys, all of them!!!

I also find it of interest that Hayden was out to Jones not long after...so it's pretty clear who won that little battle!!

I await the final with interst, but someone needs to have a word with Gough before the final...getting carted for 9 an over in your opening spell is not good enough!! He should know better than to serve up that dross!! He was lucky that Harmison, Jones and Flintoff bowled rather better than he did.

Last nights Duckworth Lewis total was a farce. Why did they only lose 60 runs off the target when we lost 17 overs? After all they had lost 9 wkts in their innings.I don't think any rain ruling will ever work.

I've had a bit of rethink on the goughy situation, well, sort of. I still think it would make more sense to have tremlett in there, but i'm more inclined to blame poor captaincy/team tactics for gough's bowling rather than gough himself. It's been seen that he's better in the middle and death than he is opening the bowling, he used to be a great opening bowler but he's not anymore so shouldn't be used as such if they insist on using him (I love goughy btw, he's one of my all time cricketing heroes, but there comes a time etc..).

Still feel it would have been wiser to give tremlett, or whomever they've decided is first reserve for the tests, more of a run in the one dayers, so he can get used to facing the aussies and know what he needs to improve on should he be called up for the tests due to the inevitable injury that will occur at some point during the summer.

Hmm...you may be right there. The thing with Gough, one of the many things I love about him, is that every time anyone starts to write him off he comes back and makes us all look silly. Even in the context of last nights game, he came back at the end and grabbed three wickets. It still was a poor game for him, but he did come back and do his stuff in the end. I wouldn't mind seeing Tremlett bowling in the final, but I think they will stick with Gough for the time being.

RJ asked for the stats..

Looks good for England. Whenever Mcgrath bats, Australia seem to loose. (stats to back this up someone?)

Summary of the Duckworth Lewis method

The Rashid Latif Cricket academy have a very readable explaination here.

The system works the same for both teams so to me it really doesnt matter.

I'd rather go with Kabir Ali than Tremlett at the moment, IF Gough has to be replaced that is (I don't think he needs to), especially after his displays in South Africa.

As for the Jones/Colly/Fred vs Hayden moment, it clearly did us a lot more good than the whingeing Aussies
