Jones has British parents which means he holds a British passport and consider himself to be British just as much as myself. If he doesn't want to be Australian he doesn't have to. He took the best option if you ask me.

The answer to your question is Pietermaritzburg, Natal, Johannesburg, Salisbury (Wiltshire?? ), Brighton (East Sussex?? ).

Countless others have been born in China.

If Craig White is one of your top five of "countless" examples then it is laughable as he was born in Morley Hall, Yorkshire.

Did you know Michael Clarke was born in Liverpool?

I like the rest of your post and jealous of you for being there, but this bit's wrong imo. Read the test batsman can't be compared with Read the odi bat, he played several desperate last stands in odis and won us quite a few games from hopeless positions, jones didn't win us the game and hasn't won us a single game with his batting.

Not taking anything away from jones, he played really well and i hope he continues playing like it, but i think it's unfair to say Read would have been worse as his previous results don't show that this would be the case, if anything they show that he would have won us the game.

Firstly, i will say that was one of the best ODI's i have watched. The only thing that could have spoiled it was if someone had won and a tie was a fitting result. Neither team "should have won it". Both teams had the chance to win, but that chance was denied to them by stubborn fightbacks. Well done Aus and ENG, what better way to really raise the anticipation of the series.

I can't find an example of a performance in a ODI by Read which would convince me he would have come in at 33-5 against the best team in the world and made 80 not out taking us to victory. The best he has done to contribute to a victory is stick around once and let Trescothick smack the Pakistanis around (2003) and knock the ball around against WI (2004) to end unbeaten on 23. He has yet to pass 30 playing a ODI innings even though he has had the chance.

He's played a few decent innings including a few in WI (2004) where he was getting the sympathy card from the press, because he had just been dropped from the test team, and subsequently got his innings built up.

He can use his limited strokes to nurdle the ball OK and can heave a ball to leg. But I don't see the ability to get, for example, a run-a-ball 70 or 80 to be a potential match-winner at the international level, when I watch Read. I do see that with Geraint Jones.

Read is good enough for a quick 20-30 towards the end of an innings, I don't see any expansiveness or improvisation which could convince me he'll ever do any better.

What's all this talk about Jones being an Aussie? He's a cannibal, he's from Papua New Guinea.

I think you will find that Craig White was born in Yorkshire otherwise he wouldn't have been able to play for them back when he started and Jones was born in Papua New Guinea.Dilutes that argument slightly.

Having lived in Birmingham, I can see why he wanted to play for Oz
