That would be my call: a batsman to force the Aussies to think twice about batting first... and Solanki ahead of Prior on the grounds that he should be in the side anyway.

A bit diffucult to focus on the cricket, or even think of it, with all this going on in London. Have reached back home a short while ago after an aborted commute to work, and eyes are glued to the havoc on the news channels.

Natwest Challenge - First Match

Dreadful news in London this morning, hope there aren't too many fatalities...

Well, Australia are now 50-0 after 11 overs, amazing considering the conditions/movement at Headingley. It's been a cross between the Aussies having a lot of luck not nicking the endless play & misses and England again not putting the ball in the right place often enough. Good shots as well from Gilchrist & Hayden...

Yes up to date news, 6 underground trains exploded, and one bus had it's top blown of, yes dreadfull news.

BBC News alert on my desktop, 2 killed at Aldgate East, one of the underground explosions hit by the exposions.

The cricket, don't know why, but I would rather have had the ordinary format, Aussie lose 1st wicket!!

No Ernest, at this stage they are saying it is 6 confirmed explosions in total, not all on underground, some on train stations, one on bus, and so on.... terrible and very, very sad indeed. So far, two confirmed deaths, I fear there will be more. But the lack of panic, the mature reaction from everyone on the streets of my city has so far been very brave and noteworthy.

I was going to pick up on this point. A very good point indeed. On the TV footage everyone interviewed and the surrounding people have been very calm considering the circumstances, and being very cooperative with officials.

Tony Blair has just been on TV, at Gleneagles, confirming the attack is down to terrorism. Al-Quaida have claimed responsibility.
