Vaughan is nowhere in the one day captaincy stakes - he always seems to be behind the play rather than a step ahead - the ICC final argainst the Windies last September is the best example I can think of.

Not sure if you are referring to Vaughan as #2 best Test captain, Aaron - if so I would like to know who is number 1. Only an idiot would deny the obvious gulf between his and Ponting's captaincy after the recent ashes series where Vaughan made Punter look like a rank amateur in the captaincy department.

1 series ? wow. what a disaster. Of course Ponting is the best captain as it was shown at the recent ICC Awards. Captain in both forms of the cricket.

Calm down mate! Take a little time to notice the trend, arsalan is obviously talking about the captains who are here in the Super Test, and he is smack on the money, there are three of them; actually four now if you include Dravid, but hasn't been for long.

Out of those I'd say Smith because he is unfairly criticised as a skipper, and his field placings and bowler rotations are better than most think.

The ICC still seems to think so. And whenevr your national cricket side lose a test series of course the fans and the nations media will be on their back, happens with every nation, just like with england the last 16 years correct ? 1 series doesn't make a career. Even though I'd have Shane Warne as captain ahead of Ponting to be honest anyway.

well i voted for smith - IMHO the best on that list and the world for ODI's

admittedly i've only seen him in one series when they last toured here but he easily out-captained flem (though the results dont show it). that was a few years ago so now he's older and the senior players in the team have got used to having him around so things can only have got better.

inzi would be an ok captian if his main strike bowler wasn't such a prima donna

ponting hasn't impressed me at all. i find him to ready to go on the defensive - with the best attack in the game he'll back off to easily if the batting team starts to get a bit of footing - even against NZ! he doesn't have the same 'foot on the throat' attitude that waugh had. i'm one of these people who would like to see ponting captain an OK team rather than the all star line up he's got
