Close of Play. Australia 428, West Indies 405 & 68-2.

Mike Hussey made an unbeaten 133 with some help from Stuart MacGill (22) to allow Hussey to play his shots and get Australia to reasonable total after they had slumped to 295-8 after Dwayne Bravo took figures of 6-84. West Indies then batted again and again the openers were out for very low scores. Devon Smith got a duck and Wavell Hinds whose returning from an injured finger scored 15. Ramnaresh Sarwan is going nicely on 53 and nightwatcmen hung around for the final 4 balls of the day.

Predictions for tomorrow. Powell will defend for a few more balls and get out. Ramnaresh Sarwan will make 100+ then throw his wicket away on 140 ish. Lara will play his shots and get another 100. West Indies will end the day 350 runs ahead.

Question

My prediction:

West Indies will be dismissed for aroud 130 and the Aussies will win by 8-9 wickets before Tea time today.

It is not new that an Aussie Tailender has supported a main batsman to take away any advantage the opposition had. At 295-8 the W Indies had a real chance to take big first innings lead.

Although commentator's were in disapproval of Chanderpaul not taking the new ball when Bravo only had 3 wickets, once Bravo had taken 6 wickets for me Shiv made the wrong decision and took the new ball. I think he should have continued with Bravo and the old ball, the tail do not bat well when the ball swings and seams IMO on most occasions. I think Bravo could have had atleast one more wicket and I reckon that Aus. could have only had 350. Therefore giving the WI something to work with and put on some pressure with more runs.

Well done Dwayne Bravo,an excellent all round performance.West Indies have a good player there and it makes you wonder about the wisdom of their selectors who left him out in Brisbane. It was a predictable demise in the second innings but at least Australia have had to work harder in this game than the other two.

Well done to Hussey on another century, told you he was class.

Also, well done to Dwayne Bravo, he looks a cut above most of the rest of the side along with Lara, Gayle and Collymore.

The 2nd demise was inevitable sadly, but once again, not helped by some woeful decisions against Sarwan, Smith and Ramdin.

I still await the "evening out" of these decisions.

I thought that the West Indies were hard done by with some of the dismissals they got. Sarwan should have had Hayden, Bravo got an inswinging yorker that swung too much, the commentators on channel 9 compared it to the Fidel Edwards dismissal of Brad Hodge in the first innings, however that delivery was plumb, this one was not. The West Indies though can take positives from this series. IMO they know that they can atleast compete with the number one ranked side in world cricket.

Might be a very long wait!

Who are the umpires giving these 'inconsisent' or 'poor' decisions? The worst offenders, namely Hair and Koertzen, are both in Lahore, so who have you guys got?

I heard Aleem Dar got into some controversy with the extremely biased Australian TV commentators (eg Taylor) over a decision in favour of the West Indies which appeared perfectly fine on replays (and hence the apparent annoyance of some of the Aussie team and commentators, perhaps some of them are not used to close calls going against them in their own backyard! )

Sarwan was out lbw to a ball that was going down leg. You only need to see that in real time to make your decision.

Dwayne Smith then get clear bat on to a delivery and got out lbw.

But Hayden's took the first prize. It was an edge so clear (off Sarwan with his searing pace ) that it is unbelievable that Aleem Dar said not out and reprehensible that Hayden stayed at the crease after that.
