If someone does eventually vote...it will be more likely that we will have a 3 way deadlock on our hands...

Shouldn't we have at least one specialist gloveman on offer at seven? Surely Ian Healy and Jack Russell should be on offer.

If we must have Gilchrist opening the batting, let's at least relegate him to the outfield!

I think so far the only other options for wicketkeeper would realistically be Healy, Mark Boucher or Jeff Dujon. Russel simply didn't play enough.

I think Gilchrist can be trusted to 'keep to the quicks, and he's kept to Warne successfully for years, so if Warne gets chosen then Gilchrist can be trusted to 'keep to him as well. And if Murali gets chosen, I'd guess that he could 'keep to him successfully to him, too. If Gilchrist has Ian Healy's trust, that's good enough for me.

I don't dispute that Gilchrist COULD do the job. That didn't stop former players picking both Gilchrist (as a batsman) AND Healy (as gloveman) for an Aussie "Dream Team" of 1995-2005 on the grounds that a dream XI should showcase a great 'keeper rather than compromise with an all-rounder.

That's fair enough, but I think by now having a specialist gloveman would be a wasted position. If you pick Healy, then in this case you sacrifice an excellent batting option in Rhodes, Hussey or even Bevan. Saying that, I would prefer a specialist gloveman over a seventh bowling option.

Any suggestions on what to do if the deadlock does not get broken?

Start a separate "run-off" thread, and let everyone choose between Rhodes and Botham.

In that case I've went for Botham then.

The sort of player who could light up a game with bat or ball, was an excellent close in catcher and pre 1982 was an outstanding outfielder with a great arm.
