Rhodes or Botham

In the interest of keeping the ball rolling..

We need to pick a number 7 out of Botham or Rhodes...

Team so far...

Adam Gilchirist
Sachin Tendulkar
Viv Richards
Jackques Kallis
Brain Lara
Lance Klusener

Looks like common sense is prevailing! In fact, I think it might be better to tweak the order so that Rhodes comes in ahead of Klusener. Given Klusener's hitting power, it shouldn't make that much of a difference, but Rhodes was pretty good at rotating the strike so he's a more valuable middle-overs player.

Looking at the poll results: Yet again people seem to forget the importance of a late middle order player who not only can bat, but was also in this case specialist bowler better than most in the world at the present time.

He may be, but another allrounder's a wasted position considering both Klusener and Kallis are already in the team. If one or both of those players wasn't in, then I probably would vote Botham. But the rest of the players are going to be bowlers, so Botham at this stage would just be superflous IMO.

So to anyone else who votes on this poll, I beg you... Vote Rhodes!

With respect Botham would get in as a bowler in his own right, neither of the players you have mentioned would IMO.
Also I would pick Botham over any other all rounder, so he gets my vote being the thread options are "Rhodes or Botham".

Spot on Ern. If Botham had played ODI's in the modern era his record would have been that good this wouldnt have even been discussed. He'd have been an automatic pick.

If no one else breaks the tie within the next few hours, I have a suggestion. Have them both- Rhodes at 7 and Botham at 8. I'm sure there are plenty of people who are happy to have both, and both are in high demand, so just do that and go straight on to nine. As Ern and Pie Chucker say, Botham is still a good ODI bowler in his own right, so that strikes me as a pretty good compromise.

Ok so Rhodes takes it 7th spot

Adam Gilchirist
Sachin Tendulkar
Viv Richards
Jackques Kallis
Brain Lara
Lance Klusener
Jonty Rhodes

So now for the rest ...if we want specialist bowlers...
should we choose out of a selection of spin...swing...seamers..
or vote by order number as we have done?

And could I get some nominations of who everyone wants on the ballot sheet...
