India Vs Srilanka ODI series Well another appalling performance by the Indian batsmen handed an easy victory to the Lankans. It was disgusting to even watch the match, given I had nothing better to do sitting at home, down with flu. Really the batsmen played worse than a bunch of amateurs, adding to the batting woes is Sehwag's injury while practice yesterday. I see that India are ranked higher than Srilanka in ODI currently and todays performance made the ICC Rankings look like a joke when they probably played worse than Bangladesh would have. I think the tail enders salvaged some pride by pushing the team total beyond the 100 mark and ended up at 146. Well anyway they're back to the all too familiar average looking side after the aberration in Australia. I cant describe how repulsed I was, after seeing a recent clip of Yuvraj modeling for Reebok on Channel V, while he and his fellow batters were perishing like flies live on Ten Sports. I wish he spent half that time trying to improve his cricket. Again I think these guys would be better off with the BCCI having a limit on the promotional activities they can engage in. It might also be better if the BCCI didn't schedule some of those meaningless tournaments like the Kitply Cup etc and gave rest to the players instead, specially before crucial series. Anyways I think we might see an ODI series whitewash by the Lankans this time without Sachin & other seniors who could've salvaged a win or two. I just hope these guys can offer some fight in the other matches and not capitulate like today. Last edited by sanketh84 : 18-08-2008 at 03:44 PM.

I dont think SL have the best of pace attacks right now...maybe lasith malinga and dilhara fernando in full flow combined with Vaas, Murali and Mendis has the potential to be the best bowling attack surely...!!!!

wow...it gets worse with an injury forcing Gambhir out as well for the 2nd ODI. The team looks more an India-A team. Pathan is slated to be sent in at the opening slot, lets see how that goes.

wow srilanka now 10-3 with zaheer taking the wickets of sangakarra, jayawardene and kapugedera. i think india may have a great chance of a turnaround if they get danger man jayasurya. as i speak one more gone!!! 11-4 with chamara silva gone.

Despite being 6/45, I expect SL to win the 2nd ODI. It is quite clear that all the IPL money has gone to the heads of Indian cricketers and they have no motivation to give their best for their country.

It is too early make such a claim. Let Mendis perform away from home against quality batsmen on a consistent basis and then we will have a better idea about his skills. To me it has been the inability of the Indian batsmen rather than Mendis's ability, which has led to India's downfall. |

I think it is a bit early to comment on Mendis, but my initial impression is that he will be someone to watch out for. I have seen him torment the Windies, Pakistanis and the Indians and I think he has that X-Factor of extremely tight line and length. Even if people do start picking him, it might be tough to get him away. I believe he is a tailender nightmare!!. But I would be more comfortable discussing about him after an away tour to australia, etc. I dont know how u make ur predictions, Django, but with SL at 45-6, India had to be favourites in the minds of even the strongest opponents of Indian cricket!!!.The ball was swinging early on and the pitch looked easier to bat later on where even tailenders seemed in no trouble against a softer ball, the pitch isn't assisting the spinners as much, so if the new ball can be seen off without too many wickets it should be game on.!!! I think India should've had the Lankans on the mat after reducing them to 6 down for nothing, but still they have a great chance provided they can be patient and conserve wickets. i'm keeping my fingers crossed for an indian win. News edit: India lose 2 early wickets before lunch. The match is now very interestingly poised. Last edited by sanketh84 : 20-08-2008 at 08:21 AM.

On Mendis, I have been watching him recently and I must say that I believe he is the real deal. I am actually afraid for SA when they next come up against the Sri Lankans. Nobody except for Sehwag has been able to "pick" this guys bowling. IMO with Murali, Mendis, Jayawardene and Sangakara, Sri Lanka are almost unbeatable at home. I would like to know when Australia are scheduled to tour there, it could be very interesting. Sri Lanka have the basis for a very strong team, they just need to find some decent opening batsmen and some good fast bowlers. I can see Sri Lanka climbing up the rankings very soon. PS: Django, please change your support teams from "I support cricket in general" to I support any team that plays against India". And Please, give the predictions a rest.
